Can't believe the reception we are getting on this initiative

  • AND MOST IMPORTANTLY

    it looked better after

More important than that is doing it without your friends noticing

  • It 'got' me and I had to had a closer look since I discovered this thread. The problem is, once you see it you can't unsee it anymore, @Hulsroy has to carry a great burden. What makes it easier for me are these things in my opionion:

    – manuals from several companies recommand for different bars different setups (what is already said here, there's no ONE way to do it), like here: https://company.3t.bike/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/UserManual.pdf
Salsa: *"Drop Bar Shifter and Brake Lever Positioning

    1. With the shift and brake levers loose, position the hoods to create a flat surface across the top of the handlebar. [...]"*

    – the bar itself: I had to struggle with my bars, the higher the hoods, the more the levers are 'bend out' or I don't know how to say, the brake levers can't be used in drop position anymore, I'd say because of the flair of the bar.

Anyways, the whole weekend I tried to find a setup which works for me, way better than I had it, and as also said here, it looks 100% better than before! Next bar tape, next setting, but for now no way I am touching it again.

  • Looks good man. Is reach not adjustable on those levers?

  • Reach is adjustable, that's totally OK, even with my small hands.

What I had a problem is the more higher I mount the levers the more they are twisted out and levers hard to reach in drop position.

  • I tried raising the hoods more, but this ended up being optimal for comfort

  • those drops look so inviting

  • I agree it looks better, but I'd really like to see some before/after hand positions ... it seems like it would be less comfortable, or at least produce greater [finger-to-lever] reach. @Maj maybe you could explain?

  • there’s more than one thing wrong here

  • Thanks! It took a long time until it reached ,never touch again‘ status but then came bdhu

  • You are right regarding the finger-to-lever reach, probably very often it gets wider, that is adjustable (at least on my levers), I had not to do so.

Another advantage beside comfort and style is longer stem possible? I have to measure everything.

  • I haven't felt this cheated since Lance Armstrong

  • I was just coming to terms with my not having a clue what I’m doing and now, now, I have to contend with the ends if the bars pointing up?

  • They’re probably not. The sloping top tube isn’t a good frame of reference. But, yes.

  • Thanks very much for this. I guess I'm still curious about hand position. For instance it doesn't look like Jala can comfortably reach his brakes in that photo.

My hands are not too big, and I definitely have something fucked up going on with my position on the drops. Feel like I have most weight on the ulnar/pinky side rather than in the palm, so I'm willing to try bdhu, just don't want to prematurely waste a grip tape..

  • Sounds like you need to share photos of your hand position rather. Then the hivemind can pitch in
