Horseflies. Or more specifically the horsefly that bit my arm on Sunday evening. Riding a bike with tyres at 110psi really hurts unless I let go of the bars with that hand.

Horseflies are nasty bastards just for the sake of it. A few years back I was in the process of landing a nice fish at a rural lake. Whilst both hands were gainfully employed a horsefly bit me between the eyebrows. I have never experienced pain like it, or for so long.

In all my years of fishing I don’t think I ever got done by a horsefly. Maybe I didn’t spend enough time landing fish!

On this occasion, both hands were engaged in meticulous thinking out of rampant geraniums from a herbaceous border.
