Just picked up one of these - a second hand Moustache Samedi. Is it worth me taking it to an e bike store to be serviced - I read online that some software updates can increase range. Or is that unlikely?

What do you mean by spot welder for the batteries? Are you talking about a wire bonding machine? If so, don’t bother with the cheap ones, they are shit.

Nickel plates are spot welded onto the battery cells aren't they?

ebike curious, fancy something that will just add x wattz on top of whatever I'm doing, say 100w but ideally without cutting out at 15mph. Think it'd bring a smile back to the 16mile each way commute on windy, wet or winter days.
Seems Shimano steps e8000 are popular for 'off-road' or use 'in the USA', wink wink.
Omnium E-Mini-Max WiFi looks hella fun and since I don't own a car, could double as a 'lazy' day commuter and local utility but ££££.Anyway, random stream of thought, don't think the ideal solution exists for people who are already reasonably fit. Understandably not the target audience.

Try some out even if you don't plan on buying new. I was pretty disappointed with the shimano systems we tried, Bosch felt much more refined. Easy to chip too, if you're going on holiday to the US: https://www.ebiketuning.com/speedchip-v3-for-bosch.html

I know 2 people who have been happy with Swytch front conversions. One of them commutes through very cold Winnipeg winters.
Not ideal if you're in a rush to get one, there's usually a long wait between releases. -

Best option would be to install an aftermarket E-bike kit, bafang mid drive is a good option.

You'd probably appreciate something with the Mahle X20 or Fazua or similar. Lightweight systems with a lower torque output. No idea how easy they are to chip though.

I have an Orbea D40 could fit the bill, it has some upgrades ( lezyne e-lights, decent mudguards and flaps, rack...) and has had very little use as my commute became considerable shorter soon after

Was it an 8 year old e6000? Anything from shimano newer than that is massively nicer.
Do get a lot of feedback from folks with bosch that.. Whilst sometimes they have higher peak torque, unless you put an aftermarket map on it, the bosch gen 3 mostly don't offer that full torque to you unless you are standing up on the pedals pretty much. Whereas shimano when set to boost /turbo, gives all it can pretty much all the time. So quite a difference.
In gen 4 bosch though they are very very similar. Would basically not worry between an ep8 or a gen 4 cx/cargo, would have to be on a dyno to tell the difference. -

Nah it was all modern stuff, have gone with gen 4 CX on our benno boost.

Is there a cheaper option to a folding/compact ebike than Brompton or Gocycle G4?
Cheers.

You see shit loads of them on the road. No idea how good any of them are though. Nothing that folds up to Brompton/Gocycle kind of size though I don't think.

Decathlon? There are lots of what look like shitty ones about that might do for occasional and short journeys, but I think you get what you pay for. Depends on the use case really.
(Though I say this from the POV of having a G4 which is great). -

Surprised to see Brompton sell the electric in the USA with the same 15.5mph cut-off as the UK. Guess there isn't much chance of modding one then? like changing to US regs for 20mph.
woops meant to post in brompton thread...
