This last episode ends in a bittersweet way but it made sense.
Just lucky to have been following the journey since these were first posted. I missed his earlier journeys but I've since rewatched them a number of times.

No captioning which make it shit >>>>>

Mate, I understand your frustration but do you really need to @ me every time to tell me there's no captions?
I've just watched 5 mins of it again and the auto generated captions were spot on. Zero mistakes. All conversations in Spanish are also translated in captions.
There's no audio descriptions either but you're not complaining about that.
At this point, it feels like you just want to be angry for reasons.

I'm not @ ing you, you're just happen to have that link to the video whose creator decided against it.

Yes you are, you’re replying to me which shows in my feed.
It’s unnecessary. I understand your POV but you don’t need to reply to me, or anyone else for that matter, for every video posted.
Post your comment on subtitle availability without replying in future. Please.

Or better yet, message the content creator?
Edit - sorry for the @ 😬

That would be a sensible approach.
I find replies in ‘following’ super useful. Apart from when it’s Ed telling me for the 30th time that a video I didn’t make doesn’t have the right kind of subtitles.
To be clear, that video has auto closed captions that are excellent.

just 2 lads driving round London in August 1999 with the radio on. Weirdly evocative and nostalgic

Has something recently changed on youtube? I seem to be getting a lot of adverts recently, whereas I used to get very few.
-
• #490
Couple of things have changed. YT have reduced payout on CPMs to creators but they've also reduced the cap on ads per video minutage and relaxed some previous restrictions on the number of skippable vs. non-skippable videos.
Advertisers have also seen a trend of better brand recognition for some 10-20 sec non-skippable videos over the 5 second true view vids so are shifting towards them. This is also helped by a reluctance to spend on shorter cuts than TV due to covid / budget cuts etc.
TLDR: Lots of things mean more ads.

The ads on youtube are getting out of hand, they are pushing towards getting premium to avoid it.
-
• #492
That's the point. Captive audience / monopoly on quality video content means they can increase reduce the creators cut on ad revenue, increase the frequency of ads (and the cost to advertisers) and still profit with a paid tier as people get sick of the ads.
I use YouTube a lot but I really want it to die.

I notice that you don't get adverts when viewing an embedded YT video.
C&P url into a private message to myself on here for embedded video :)

time to petition Peter Millard to start a pornhub channel in that case.
-
• #495
Some creators are blocked playback by embedded video to avoid losing revenue...

LOL.

You also don't get adds with youtube-dl. For stuff you subscribe to you could setup a script to download the videos and then republish them somewhere your phone can download them overnight ready for the train journey to work.

youtube-dl
yt-dlp is a better supported & more updated fork

It also seems that they can advertise any old shit, ignoring any sort of standards. I keep being served propoer scammy quack ads just now.
Outstanding, this is such a great series, I’ve re watched it a number of times.
