I've just put some new grass seed down. Some to thicken up existing grass, some on bare patches which I've covered with some extra topsoil.
How wet should I be keeping the lawn whilst it germinates (and then after that)? The ground is bone dry below the layer I've watered but I guess that doesn't matter before it germinates.

The overgrown border from last year to now.
Have to sort out fencing and build a small retaining wall, but no time or £ this year.
So-many-weeeeeeeeeeds!

Any idea what this is? I found it at the back of our flower bed.
It’s smells a bit like coriander but I can’t be sure.

Looks like Herb Robert, commonly regarded as a weed due to its self seeding powers: https://www.rhs.org.uk/weeds/herb-robert

Flowers deffo look geranium....

If, as it looks like, the stems are red then it's definitely herb robert. Extremely self seedy, but pretty and easy to pull out.

Sweet! What variety?

Thanks peeps. Such a shame it’s smells like it would be good in Thai food

It's edible!
Went on a foraging walk and it's one of the plants mentioned as edible.

Oh wow that’s cool. I think I left some in the flower bed. Can you just eat it or put it in stuff?

Can't remember and didn't write a label!
They're some kind of first early, floury rather than waxy but otherwise no idea, sadly.

herb robert
Thanks for the name, I had never been bothered to look it up before. I have a completely unsubstantiated hatred for them. Probably because they are everywhere, and also maybe because they look a bit like a spider.

I had posted this in the houseplants thread, not realising/checking if there was a gardening thread. Anyone any tips on how to control/get rid of this? By all accounts, it seems fairly nasty.

RHS has a page on it
https://www.rhs.org.uk/weeds/horsetailBasically, if it's in the lawn, mow it again and again.
If it's in your borders, pull up as much of it as you can, as soon as you see it, or use horrendous toxins.
Neither poisoning or pulling it will do anything quickly, both will need to be repeated for years. So there seems little reason to use the chemicals.

It looks superficially similar to cranesbill geranium which is more spidery and more everywhere, I think

What is this on the raspberries? I have cut it off and binned it in any case

Garden here is coming down with it.
It releases nutrients for other plants but I expect I need to keep pulling it out forever as it's everywhere here. And it grows immensely fast.
Extracts seem to be good against some plant diseases and it inspired an algorithm.
But as it's everywhere and roots deep even murdering it in my garden won't do it.
See also the brambles from the neighbours...cannot get rid I dig the roots up and they just come back.

Suspected as such. Doesn't seem too bad if I cut off what I see here and there, seems fairly endemic right?

Yeah should be fine
Nice one, good to hear it's worth the maintenance.
