• I've got a fucking annoying rattle and I'm about to drive 1,100km to France on Wednesday.

It's in a panel underneath the screen on my Model Y. Pushing upwards on the panel immediately stops the rattle and it immediately starts again when I remove pressure.

Behind the panel is an air sensor (black thing pictured) with a small fan in it. Inside the panel are two bolts that connect the screen to the dash and the wire that feeds the screen (also pictured).

I've already tightened the screen bolts and placed some foam pads (dark green pictured) around the perimeter of the panel. This hasn't fixed the issue.

What can I do ahead of tomorrow?

The wife has a load of cushion stuffing material etc - would that combust if I stuck it inside there? I'm going to electrical tape the connector.

It's doing my fucking head in.

  • Tried padding on the clip that slots in first, so as to create more pressure on it, tape could also go on back of facia . I wonder if by pushing up your remove the rattle because that becomes disconnected from the facia.

  • is it the plastic panel which rattles? try some strategically placed blobs of blue-tack.

  • I'm guessing it's those little plastic tabs/tangs that click into place... Vibrating against the edge they clip into. Try a bit of tape on the outside edge.

Alternatively you could try a small amount silicone grease or spray around the edge of the whole unit before clipping it in. Might help.

  • How tight is the tolerance between piece and orifice? I’d try lining the orifice and clips with thin textile Tesa tape, the type that’s usually used for cable wrapping.
