  • Not my watch but these are now out in the wild. Shot these for Pinion a couple of weeks ago, thought the dials/numerals/hands were very well done for the money and not another sub/seiko/minimalist homage from another ‘exiting new watch brand’
good to see there are a few British brands who do try and plough their own furrow.

  • I didn't know you did CGI?

Seriously, Ejay should employ you. Seiko too.

  • Just for you. The watch is from 2009, I think.

  • Nice i really like the case shape on these and I'm after the one with the hi polish case and sunburst dial. I've seen these look great on a variety of different straps so more versatile than the atmos 30 pepsi gmt i was going to go for

  • The 50 Atmos is great (disclaimer: I own one, which I'm very attached to). It's very much an identifiably Squale design, rather than something they'd have made for one of their clients as a case supplier (eg Doxa, Blancpain) or the more Submariner-adjacent 20/30 Atmos, and wears super well for a 500m rated 42mm diver. Feels indestructible, like a proper tool watch. Way more than the (more expensive) Doxa 200 does. It's also barely gone up in price over the past 5 years when everything else has skyrocketed.

  • Good size on you imo.

  • And I have a pretty small wrist, 17cm. The lugs are short and angled downwards, which makes a big difference.

  • Bah, this has sent me back down the rabbit hole re-reading Jason Heaton's piece on Hoodwinkee that prompted me to get the Squale in the first place (it was my first mechanical watch), and reminded me how annoyed I am with myself that I didn't make an effort at the time to also obtain one of the Page & Cooper (who are no longer trading) specials they made using the vintage/NOS bakelite bezels:

  • The matt case work so much better than the polished case, the latter feel a bit more desk divers.

  • Also the brushed vs polished chapter ring changes the look dramatically.

  • Speed awareness course , I love this.
I don't need no "awareness course"
I knew how fast I was going.........................

  • "Sorry officer, I wasn't wearing my tachymeter bezel"

  • When I turned up to do my first one of these( years ago) , the "instructor " was outside to greet when we arrived.
As I got out of my car he pointed to my dashboard and asked what was on it.
    "That's my radar detector " I said
He pissed himself and said it was lucky he couldn't fail me.

  • Very nice, where are the mods from? Mine is running 5mins fast every 7 days... need to get this serviced, might be tempted to mod mine.

  • I was dead set on the shiny one and thats what I'm chasing but i can get hold of matt blasted version straight away i think. Is it just a matter of taste or are the blasted cases more durable? I do seem to gravitate towards shiny blue watches but i already have one. I'm actually into this one for the dial more than the case but if the polished cases are scratch magnets??? Mine will be strictly a desk diving watch i even take my dive watches off in the shower https://youtu.be/YFO9QDFsYVY

  • Channelling my inner Eric Hall

  • I'd have thought polished would get scratched up pretty quick.

If you like the milanese, buy it on that. It's a costly upgrade for the proper one.

  • I was going to buy it on the milanese for that reason. I buy all my watches on bracelets then end up changing them out pretty quickly. The Blue Squale looks great on a khaki nato which I'll grab straight away then a vintage looking grey nubuck or tan leather and maybe something bright like an orange rubber zuludiver.

  • Purely a matter of taste, though I think scratches etc on the blasted finish are going to be less noticeable / more incongruous.

Polished is how the vintage watches would have been though. Up to you.

  • Isn’t it. IIRC there were three different colourways.

Pricewise here is what it cost me:

Bezel replacement (owner supplied) - £25
Hand Swap (owner supplied) - £n/a
Day and Date wheel swap (owner supplied) - £n/a
New NH36 movement, stem and crown (ONA supply) - £155
    Pressure testing - £30
    Return P&P - £12

Really happy with his services. Worth saying mine was probably fast, like 5m a day sometimes so I opted for a movement swap given the relatively small extra cost.

  • It's time to have a lovely weekend

    Hope everyone is doing well
