What's a good multipurpose kitchen knife? Something that is kitchen but can be used as a do it all hack n slash? Cutting up boxes, opening packages etc.

Don't use kitchen knives on boxes.
Get a stanley knife or utility knife

This is probably more offensive to those on this thread than the search function….

Cutting up boxes, opening packages etc.
I have an old nylon handled supermarket chef's knife for that sort of thing.
I keep it sharp enough to take the balls of anyone that decides to use any other kitchen knife to open things.

Thanks, it does look a bit rough and ready.
But I guess you could you could put a decent edge on it with sufficient time and effort?

As Lynx suggested, but the Fatmax alloy body, with its locking screw is better than any of the others I've used and broken.

Mora Companion is cheap enough to abuse, plenty sharp enough for hack n slash

I never thought about that but you knife nerds would have a fucking breakdown if you saw what I use the knives in my kitchen for...
One's missing its tip because I used it to free the block of paraffin I use for chain waxing in the crockpot.
A couple were jammed into my front disc to try and free up the pistons to stop the bastard squeaking.
Um, every package ever delivered has probably been opened with one of the knives from the block. They're never sharpened so you have to use a LOAD of force too.
Haha

Only the 7th person to refer to me as crazy today. Standards are slipping. Just like my kitchen knives as I use them to scrape glue off the back step's tiles...

I meant the object...

In fairness, you consume calories by opening a can of beer or tearing open an energy gel. You don't need a knife.

Yeah, the edge could be improved but using my kiwi knives as the are so much nicer. And less than 6-7 pounds.

I have The World's Sharpest Kitchen Knife tm. Shit as a kitchen knife, ok for things you wouldn't want to use a kitchen knife for.
But ultimately, get a Stanley knife.

That knife has caused me my worst kitchen knife injury…

I believe they use bubinga wood as it has a finer grain, and resists water and warping better than standard handles.

Pleasure in the hand.
Love this:

I think you'll like it.

On the road, sure.
I like to keep my nails beautiful when I'm at home though.
The is the knife and I mentioned it before
Here is the handle, also not great, at the blade end there the blade miss fit. Also the gap on the handle
