I was watching the 90s adaption of Midsummer's Night Dream this morning and pretty sure Christian Bale is riding the Homer. And big shoutout to Ally McBeal's dynamo angle

You're welcome.
Aside from the inital faff of installing a FD at the correct height and angle, I've never had any issues with them in friction setups.
I've found a gap of 10 teeth to be very usable as well.
So much that I never converted the triple on my Pelago to a sub-compact double.Plus the symmetry of two shifters is easy on the eyes.

Glad to see Swinley Forest getting some love too, I think a lot of MTB people dismiss it because it’s not Hardcore™️ enough, but it’s actually lovely.

I originally bought 3x classic deore fd for the Raleigh but couldn’t set it up properly with the 2x 46/30 cranks. It was always rubbing somewhere. In the end i bought another damn cheap old shimano 600 2x fd and that’s doing a perfect job. So I guess most old 2x fds should be fine.

Let me have a rummage through my parts bin at home to see if I have a suitable mech sitting around.

very kind josh!
@BareNecessities has just pulled one out of his "mech graveyard" and offered to send my way so im hoping this fits the bill!
@oddo thank you for your experience - i'm hoping the smaller tooth gap helps me out here and have sought some advice from random mtb forums and people are split - it seems largely to depend on what and what on, im hoping im in the "it works camp" as strictly speaking it should? but it's good to know any old road one will do!
@MisterMikkel yes! i might get the lovely guys down at sbc to do this - i'm quite fond of them and they always do a lovely job for a very fair price - also means i can spend time riding which is important in this weather!
@rawspuds it's honestly excellent , having ridden epping and swinley now, swinley is by a gravel bike (TM) is far preferred , it's prime for under biking and just cruising fire roads and military land - epping is nice, but i definately feel i need a proper mtb to get the most out of it for a day ride, that said i've spent less time there.

jan heine will be facing a class action any day now, the way he’s lead people astray? Despicable.
-
• #2338
Never been a fan of Jan (directly), but suppose I get his diluted opinions from Uncle Ron.
I'll just live with my new set-up, because by the time I've actually decided to act minimal will be on trend again! -
• #2339
Looking good! Now ditch the 1x, and you're cooking.

how does it feel to ride a rig with far superior braking system?
excellent, thank you!
yes my thought about this! saves me the most money in the long run, and spreads the wear over the casette - on my 1x with a dinner plate i just use 3 gears most days.
@gubhi a big compliment coming from someone with many nice bikes themselves!
