  • But why is it getting so hot internally? You'll have some solar gain but that can be addressed with thermal blinds, fridge/computer/ humans putting out some heat but where is the rest of it coming from?

  • The side of our house is just one big heat soak. It's in the sun for at least 8 hours a day then the back is for the rest of it. There's literally zero shade across the house from sun up to down.

  • Guess things like verandahs and shade cloth aren't really things over here.

  • New build, no trees to provide shade I'm guessing.

Lots of tarmac radiating heat etc.

  • no trees to provide shade

Good point. Just have to wait 10 years...

  • I think your plants won't like this if you have any

  • This is something that makes me laugh about my parents new place - the garden is basically echoey due to the lack of trees.

  • This. No tarmac but brick still kicking up a lot of heat.

No trees, no other houses to create shade.

  • @Velocio

We have one of those portable AC units. It is great for cooling a room before you use it, I would reckon it's too loud to use comfortably while in the room. We used it to cool our spare room last night as it was 30 degrees in there (flat roof dormer). Got it down to 24 in about an hour.

I did get an extension hose as otherwise the one it comes with is too short to be able to put it in a lot of places we needed to. If you do that, make sure you get the right diameter. I lost it in the move and got one that was only slightly smaller, but it made a huge difference to the efficiency. It basically didn't work at all.

Also, if you have a long hose, that is going to be a heater for whatever room/space it is running through. But if it is long enough, you can position it outside the window in such a way that there is less need for a good seal/flange or anything.

  • Heat exchangers can / should be able to cool a property. It's basically just a supercharged version of the pump in your fridge that takes warm air from the surrounding area and cools it

I get that... Our exchanger doesn't.

Anyone got experience with Vent Axia? Am I doing something wrong?

  • Vent Axia

They make lots of things - what model / type do you actually have?

  • Sentinel Kinetic E - older model with no way of doing a summer bypass i dont think

  • That's not a heat exchanger, it's a heat recovery system. I think that means that it can't do cooling.

  • The engineer pulled it out and called it that, but your explanation makes more sense.

  • Update now the sun is hitting the kitchen.

    Spicy.

  • Only 27.3 in here today but the curtains are drawn compared to yesterday.

  • Peaked at 24.8'c indoors... BBC says 28'c outside. So I guess it's not that bad.

  • That's crazy.

It's 33.5C in my flat but 38 out

  • 28.3 in here now.

  • Still going up.

Guess which room is the only one that’s fully on the side of the house not in the sun…

    No chance.
