Yep the same issue. I actually sold the chainring as it turned out the only way to resolve it was to make irreversible change to either the crank spider or the expensive chainring.
I actually got confirmation that the bike shop who had managed to fit it did grind the chainring down, which I'm less keen on overall.
So I sold the chainring and got a thinner one :)

Very specific request here...
I bought a 5mm chainring that won't fit on my crankset because of a hidden, reversed spider behind the crank. The width between the 4 normal cranks and the reversed crank is 4mm. I'm almost certain the only way to make the chainring fit is to grind 1mm off one of the holes, so it can fit the reversed spider.
To do this, I think I'd need some sort of dremel stand (and a lovely operator to do it for me). Does anyone have such equipment and be interested in helping out?
