  • Probably fucked then, maybe it was crashed and the clamp is bent.

  • Thanks, that will do for me!

  • Just looks to me like the bottom piece of the clamp is sticking on the post and not rotating to where it needs to be.

Strip it all apart, clean and maybe a bit of grease between the lower part of clamp and post?

  • Million dollar question that! Haven't had any in 18 months. Shimano warranty thankfully not being arse about all the various colours of mineral oil inside all the calipers with seized pad pins I've sent in lol.

  • All,

I have a Shimano Di2 question; if I insert a rear wheel with a Campag cassette, will the rear mech sync accurately to the sprockets as it would with a Shimano cassette?

    Thanks.

  • For an 11 speed cassette and mechs, yes. You might have to adjust the limit screws and indexing, but the spacing is close enough that it'll work fine.

  • Thanks. Will try

  • then unless the clamp isn't sitting right I would say its fucked

  • How easy/difficult would it be to fix the snapped cable stop on this RD? I've been offered a silly cheap deal on the groupset, but no point if it's unusable. Thanks!

  • I'd expect it to be a case of removing the snapped part of the barrel adjuster that's still stuck in the mech, then screwing in a replacement.

  • Could the wheel bearings affect how twitchy a bike feels?

I thought it was my imagination at first after not having used this bike for a while but after a few more km ridden, it definitely feels different. I didn't touch the headset at all, the only thing I changed were the wheel bearings. There in no play in the axle and the nuts are installed correctly.

  • Yes, in Glasgow, we're aiming to run one every 4-8 weeks over non winter time. Helps clear clutter from the shop and some of us have boxes of old but good stuff to shift.

Have a pair of genuinely very good nick campag hyperon two's (or ones, whichever are the full carbon boys), thats about the fanciest thing, rest is usual 90's/00's mid tier mtb stuff and occasional classic tatt (70's-80's low to mid tier road stuff).

  • not having used this bike for a while

Think it’s prob the case that your brain is still readjusting. Were you using a different bike in the meantime?

  • Yes I was, several bikes but none with a headtube and fork quite as steep as this one. And I think you're right - it felt completely normal on my commute today. So strange how yesterday I couldn't get it stable no-handed and today it's like I was born doing it!

  • Recently I tried to use a flat top chain on a Eagle drivetrain with a not compatible narrow wide chain ring in front and GX derailleur - and it works fine. Is it because the tooth of the chainring gotten smaller, and of the derailleur or why does it work? It should not work as I read, but wanted to give it a try. I‘ll get a proper Eagle chain, but just wondering.

  • One of the bikes is a belt driven cube editor. I've not had any punctures yet but had a flat tyre. Looking for the puncture it seems the air is escaping from under the rim. Any idea what caused this and how to fix?

I've not taken the tyre off yet as was getting late, I'm wondering if it is perhaps tubeless and something is off. I've had this for over a year now

  • Should I raise the straddle wire clamp up a bit? Brakes not great at the moment.

  • Because parts manufacturers want you to believe that things are incompatible so that you continue buying the specific expensive chains etc.
I've been using a Sram flat top chain with a Shimano 11 speed groupset for 5000km and it is running sweet still.
    It's fine.

  • Lower straddle = spongier feel = more stopping power
Higher straddle = crisper feel = less stopping power

    GENERALLY

There’s a sweet spot for each set up - and how wide are those rims? That might be a factor.

  • GENERALLY

    This. So much.

I dunno if v brake cable pull is more standardised or something but I’ve gotten massive improvement in feel just by swapping levers. Both supposedly short pull/canti compatible and it’s not like the one that felt so much better was an expensive lever, if anything the opposite.

Fwiw I’ve tried a couple different v pad cantis (not those ones though) and been depressingly underwhelmed by them both.

  • Throw them into a furnace because cantis are shit.
