I'd be inclined to strip the cover off an old saddle and pratice on the plastic base before turning a valuable one into Swiss Cheese ;-)
Ah, it lost it's suede cover a few years ago, so it's already a fairly stiff plastic base as it is anyway. Apparently an old hack was to drill out Unicanitors to make them more comfortable as they don't have too much give.
