I carry a 1 Euro coin in my wallet. Means I don't spend it, and the new BRITISH POUND coin was designed to be roughly the same dimensions as the 1 EUR coin for the very purpose of fitting in the trolleys.
(Well, actually, my butler carries the 1 EUR coin in his whatever. I don't do my own shopping.)
