The working from home thread: tips and advice

D3200 Nikon. Too old for webcam utility.

I've got a cheapo one (which I tried with a Nikon D3200 coincidentally) and there was a hefty lag. Remember the quality was decent but not amazing. I went back to using a webcam rather than persist with it.

Any recommendations on cheap webcams anyone?

Depends on how you define cheap? I've been using this for the past couple of years, does the job.

All 4 are frustratingly mismatched sizes.

Bottom left is the new one - an MSI portable screen for working away from home or when my partner visits without needing storage space for a whole normal screen. Seems pretty great!

I’ve got a Logitech 920 going spare if you want it cheap

I'd recommend one of these for the portable screen. More adjustable and less bulky than using the case as a stand

Looks good, thanks. I almost got the ThinkVision M14 because it has this nice adjustable base, and I knew the cover on the MSI would be crap in comparison, but the MSI had HDMI and speakers which won me over. The speakers are of course shit, but still, it's a lot more handy for a Raspberry Pi, old desktop, console etc.

I think the carpet under my chair is getting fucked up. Do WFHers recommened some kind of matt for under roller chairs? I don't want to slide around too much but I'd like to not bunch up the carpet

Buy a box of laminate and make a temporary floor. Maybe mount on a bit of 6mm hardboard / ply.

Ooh, I like the look of those portable MSI monitors. Hoping to get out and about sometime soon going from a 43" 4K monitor to a single 14" laptop screen is always a bit ugh.

I need a new office chair. Currently in an ergonomic stool thing but it has now been talked down by 3 independent physios so I need a change. I can't deal with an aeron because aeron. Would love something eames without paying eames kinda money. Prefer something vintage rather than new.
