I have a cassette version of 'The House Sound of London' from bitd, volume 4 of the series. It has D.S. Building Contractors - One For The Burglar on it. One of my favourite tunes of the time, the producers got quite famous later on!
Agreed it's more complex, I am aware of Detroit Techno (I did post a Juan Atkins track as an example) and I also chose to leave out the Hip Hop/Electro connection which is another easy way to identify different origins. I've watched more than a few great documentaries on the early days and read a few books but I thought I might try and simplify it.
Thing is that early Detroit Techno can have more in common with House and Electro than Techno now.
Seems like the few comments above are headed towards origins and splitting hairs between Techno/Detroit Tech and Electro and there are unlikely to be any winners in that one.
I don't agree entirely with this map but it's good in some regards.
