Actual high quality ironmongery is pretty much extinct now.
Not at all, it just comes at prices that makes you feel like you've been kicked squarely in the happy place with steel toes.
About 3 years ago I did a lot work at a house renovation in Hammersmith the building was nothing special but was a 4 story building that was previously bedsits, the new owners turned it into a single occupancy house. Mummy and daddy were footing the bill and the budget for the door handles alone came in North of £15k. They were not unattractive and were solid brass castings but the owner was looking for ways to "accelerate the patina".
