  • I don't think there was any implication on you not being an accepting and inclusive individual, just about how you and many others refer to their partner on here

My wife and I are male and female respectively (both by birth and identity).

    Also, did double-take.

  • she only reads the memes thread

    I always knew she was a wrong'un

  • Tying a knot in the end of a balloon. Especially at short notice.

  • Asking for the day off, telling everybody I'll be off, actually taking the day off and then getting a work phone call in the morning when I'm still in bed, 11 unread messages on whatsapp from coworkers by the time I'm up and it's now the afternoon and some people still haven't put 2+2 together and keep calling and texting, including my boss.

I feel like I should be paid for the time I've had to explain "I'm off today, remember?" to everybody. Fuck me.

Euphemism? Emergency Vasectomies thread >>>>> ?

  • Everything Liz Truss says, and the way she says it

  • Earworms.

Today's is Footsteps (on the dancefloor). Could be worse? It is. Somehow an innocuous tune has morphed into Quickstep on the dancefloor, accompanied by a mental image than cannot be unseen.

  • Are you talking Teardrops?

    It’s a beautiful song

  • Yeah love that track

  • I wonder who the studio guitarist is. Left handed, playing an upsidedown right-handed Strat, but not re-strung properly @almac68 Is that a young Eric Gales?

edit - nah, couldn't be - would have only been 14 years old at the time :)

  • Cecil Womack, isn't it?

  • Bobby Womack was known for playing guitar like that: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/bobby-womack-7277nkpvzkx

  • Not sure Bobby ever played with Womack & Womack did he?
Cecil also played left-handed and upside-down (plus it looks like Cecil and he’s credited as playing guitar on that album).

  • I knew a guitar teacher that did that, can you imagine?

6 year olds trying to upside down back to front an entirely new language of dexterity. It was a pain to watch him play tbh, his reasoning is his students don't have to bring a guitar.

  • The very track, stuck in what passes for as a mind because I was dancing to it (on a pub table) at a gig on Sunday. An excellent funk covers band led by a friend of ours, Helen Sharp.

It isn't helped by an unwanted vision of Alaphillipe et al giving it large, otherwise yes I love that song.

  • nah, this is Eric Gales at Battle of the Bands, Memphis 1989.. aged 14
none of that drippy stuff methinks

  • @ColinTheBald if you want a track about footsteps.. this

  • I didn't, but that was most welcome, if I keep playing it Quickstep might fuck off....

  • oak processionary moth caterpillars - or more specifically their hair

    Oh no! What happened?

  • Damn. Hope you're ok. We had those near me last year - some kid reacted badly (is ok now). I would literally kill them with fire - actually, don't do this, they hoover them up, I think?

  • When I was a kid, I used to live in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by a pine forest from all sides. My parents always told me to not touch the pine caterpillars because I would get sick, so I always avoided them like the plague.

One day I was playing football in the garden and kicked the ball outside our fence into the woods. I went to retrieve it and at one point reached a clearing in the forest, where I held my hand up against a tree to have a look around trying to spot the ball. The tree felt really soft and soothing so I kept massaging it and rubbing my hand against it. I must have stayed there a good 2 or 3 minutes rubbing my hand on the tree before actually looking at it; it was a huge clump of pine processionary caterpillars. Some were already squished from my hand movements.

Anyway I didn't get sick and from that day on I picked them up with my hands every chance I got.

  • Went for a ride last night and I reckon I’ve got about 40-odd what feel like tiny insect bites on arms and legs. Got a load last year too so you think I’d learn my lesson.
