the features I've been waiting for since buying my 2020 iPad pro are now... M1 iPads only? Fucking Apple man, its less than 2 years old, its already overpowered!!

So, which is the winner:
13 inch Macbook Pro with M2 or 14 inch Macbook Pro with M1 pro?use case is web development. It would be a business purchase.

I would go with the 14” (I have the 16).
Better screen & MagSafe alone would win but the new design also has much better cooling so you’ll like see less throttling under load so comparable performance to the M2.

Todays maniacal question - I have Apple Match - why? My memory isn’t working.
-
• #19282
I haven’t heard of any cases of thermal throttling with these M chips.

100% 14 inch. Better screen etc.
although I’d be tempted by the new Air. -

There's plenty of examples in testing of thermal throttling of both the M1 MBA and MBP (non redesign). LTT did a few really good videos on it.
It's not a design flaw or a major problem, it's just physics. The cooling solutions in both those machines aren't as proficient as those in the re-designed chassis.

Oh really? I must have missed them… will go have a hunt. All I’ve heard is they remain cool and quiet in real world performance tests.

Talk to me about apple watches. Is it just tech-bro-geekery or actually useful? Will mainly use it for exercise, tracking my workouts / runs / etc. Also navigation while cycling.

It’s not catastrophic on the MBP but it’s there. It’s a small difference that would push me to the 14”

They are decent but they're either trying to rope you into wearing it 24/7 or you feel you're getting half baked data.
If you want to maintain a strict exercise regime they are helpful. After about a year of wearing it you know roughly what it would say anyway.
As a watch they are not really 'good looking'. The cheap ebay straps are fun and work fine.

Useful. Good at tracking exercise and heart rate. One downside - they don’t bounce - I’m on my fourth. Expensive to replace so, if you buy one, be careful.

Brilliant. Love the health data. Love Apple Pay on it. Has lasted really well. I’ve had the same one (series 4) for years, but then again I don’t try to bounce mine ;)

A long time ago I was looking for a solution for my GFs WFH situation. Her organisation is rather backward with IT, and their remote working option is to login to a desktop computer at work using Microsoft Remote Desktop. With their setup, this can only be done through a PC running Chrome.
We've put Parallels onto her MacBook Pro to run MS Windows (we don't have a PC), installed everything and she can login to her work computer. But, and it's a big but, the window which opens to work in is tiny. About a quarter of her laptop screen. And there appears to be no way to make it bigger. Is this because her work computer monitor is 1366 x 768 resolution and her MacBook Pro resolution is much higher?
The offending window is in the screenshot, it's the one with the display settings of her work computer. Any ideas how to fix this?

yes
Any ideas how to fix this?
I don't have Parallels installed any more but I thought there was a way to scale / fullscreen the window in Parallels' window settings somewhere

Parallels help might help?
-

Cheers. I've tried the Parallels help and all of the options to scale/fullscreen, but I think that's actually for the Parallels window itself. The bit I'm stuck with is the remote desktop computer she's trying to connect to through Parallels.
We've just tried to see what it look like scaled up on a new Mac Display at 5k and the remote desktop window is ridiculously small. Bizarrely, if you then open the Parallels window to full screen the remote desktop window for a moment becomes full screen, but then everything blinks and it goes back to its original tiny size.

Did you try to connect without bothering with a Windows desktop? I know you said their IT claimed you needed it, but that seemed unlikely. Posted a reply last time
https://www.lfgss.com/comments/16173403/incontext/The resolution should be set in the remote desktop profile rather than on the client.
something like the pic below

Are you sure it's actually Microsoft remote desktop and not the chrome remote desktop? I think the latter is more of remote access whereas the former usually takes the native resolution of what you're using to access it.
What happens if you unplug the monitor or plug in one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07YMTKJCR

Alas, the computer is in my GFs office at work. It's not really possible to unplug anything, as somebody would probably come along and re-try to plug the monitor back in. As far as I'm aware it's a weird setup with MS Remote Desktop through some ancient IT equipment #publicsector

We tried everything you posted before with no joy. It just wouldn't connect directly, and when she met with the IT department, apparently it's only possible to connect through Chrome and then using MS RD web client. But...
What you've put above has worked. It really worked. She hadn't even noticed the "Show options" on the connection window. Although the setting were the same as your screenshots, I just checked the "Use all my monitor for the remote session", and it's now working full screen. This whole situation is just so she can access the student database at home, which is the only bit of the puzzle missing.
Honestly, thank you for helping with this.

As a watch they are not really 'good looking'.
I saw a grown man yesterday in a talkshow, well dressed with shirt and suit jacket, he had an apple watch on and it looked so stupid really.
Like, very out of place and "gimmicky", for lack of a better word.I used to think they do look cool - but they really only look cool on younger people with modern, casual, "fresh" clothes.
And also they really only look cool when the display is actually on - when it's just that big shiny black shape it's not that appealing in my opinion. That being said I know a few elderly people with heart issues, and their kids got them one for monitoring heart rate and it works really well they say and they love the thing đź‘Ť
For today's influencers for their overhead advertised overhead shots.
