  • decent grips for flat bars to relieve numb fingers?
are ergon ga3 the go-to that don't look too ergonomical?
    any other alternatives?

  • @gbj_tester didn’t manage to catch you before you dashed off tonight, have a question I think you’ll know the answer too but anyone else welcome to chip in…

Have a new wheel with a dt Swiss 240 rear hub, and I can’t get the rotor to sit between the pads, and looks like I need a <0.5mm spacer to make it work, is such a thing advisable and available?

It’s not just me, as a friend has the same wheel in a different frame and brake and has the same issue…

  • A shim under a centrelock rotor to move it outboard? 0.5mm probably won't kill you. Of course, this is why 6-bolt rotors and IS calipers are better than all the subsequent shit, you can safely shim one or the other to move the relative positions either way.

  • Unless the rotor is too far outboard already

  • You can get inverse shims for 6-bolt hubs 🙂

  • Thanks, I got one quote through car.co.uk (and surprised at how much!) but wanted to find something locally so I can get more without paying for collection.

The fact that it is currently legal to drive (insured and MOT) should make that a lot easier for me.

  • Looking for full spectrum lamps.
Not trying to grow weed, just have a dingy flat.
I have these CFL Square lights in the round shades and am really struggling to find a full spectrum one. Do they exist? Is there another 4pin full spectrum lamp I could use?
    I can't replace the fittings, it's a rental.

    To replace these;

  • I have a 2010 Kona Honky Inc (one of these https://2010.konaworld.com/bike.cfm?content=honkyinc ) Happy with the fit and no real desire to change it but I've always had a bit of an issue with the front derailleur. Possibly just my cackhandedness in maintaining them but never seem to shift that sweetly.

Pondering switching to a 1x setup but would this involve me having to change a load of other stuff other than chainring and rear derailleur? Is it even possible (with a decent range of gears) with a bike of this age?

  • Frozen peas:

Should I use just enough boiling water from the kettle to cover them (less water to bring back to the boil) or fill the saucepan right up (more water, but it won't have been cooled as much by the peas)

  • I boil double the amount of water I need in the kettle, cover the peas, drain, cover again with fresh hot water. Interested to know which is the most efficient way 🤓

  • I microwave them

  • You're not pre-heating your pan?

  • I microwave them

    +1

  • You mean cooking peas alone? In that case I cook them like pasta. Plenty of water, peas in, then hob on till they're bubbling.
If they're just an ingredient, put em in frozen.

Peas don't really need cooking just heating up imo.

  • Yes, just peas, for like fish fingers chips and peas.

    Double water sounds extravagant!

I'm too old to trust a microwave.

  • The most energy efficient and time efficient means would probably be to have the peas reach room temperature in advance. You could put them in the sun to speed this up.

  • I have these CFL Square lights in the round shades and am really struggling to find a full spectrum one. Do they exist?

I doubt it. I was as fan of Thorn 2D when they launched as the form factor allowed for nice luminaire designs, but they're a liability now. There are LED conversions available, but you're not going to find anything with a high CRI and they have a lower lumen output than the original fluorescent.

I'd be trying to change the fittings, if you're sure your rent contract prohibits that then get your landlord to sign off on it.

  • Should I use just enough boiling water from the kettle to cover them (less water to bring back to the boil) or fill the saucepan right up (more water, but it won't have been cooled as much by the peas)

Your mission is to heat peas, not water. Minimum quantity is the way to go.

  • Now then, my commuting car is a Pug 107 with a pathetic horn. I have purchased a pair of China's finest snail shell horns à la the Fiamms I once fitted forty years ago. I have wiring and a relay but what rating of inline fuse does the team think I should buy? TIA.

  • Surely everyone on here is growing their own peas, and eating them fresh from the pod…

  • I love that. Never failed to raise a smile.

I’m still bitter that ‘John rumped the flying hop’ was removed from the bridge on the way in to Welwyn.
I’ve Tried in vain over the years to find a photo of it. It turns out I’m the only person on the internet who’s ever mentioned it (3 times, now).
