  • Hello, does anyone have an off road London to Brighton route they recommend?
Looking for something like 60 miles suitable for cyclocross 40ish tyres. Thanks.

  • Perfect thread derail opportunity.
    CX tyres are 33

  • Lol.. I should have said, cyclocross bike with gravel tyres. Apologies.

this looks fun but I haven't done it yet.

  • Only if you’re racing UCI ranked races, otherwise you can race what you like.

  • Have done this and its a good route. Not that easy but fun.

  • Amazing, thank you.

  • South Downs way from Guildford > Brighton is pretty great as well. Bit flatter.

  • It's called the Downs Link

  • Thanks, this is mainly paved it seems?

  • Sutton-> Belmont->Drift Bridge-> Epsom Downs ->Mickleham -> Dorking-> Wotton -> Coldharbour-> choice of loads of MTB trails to Cranleigh->Downslink->SDW->Brighton

  • any gpx or link to komoot/ridewithgps for this? thanks!

  • Thank you.
Is it doable with road bikes max 28 mm tyres?
A friend of mine has only 1 road bike (poor he doesn't know yet the n+1 rule!)

and from Tufnell Park to Guildford? or any zone close to where my friend lives to Guildford..?

    ta

  • We did the Downs Link down to Steyning at the weekend (and then west on the SDW)...

From what I can remember it was pretty smooth (and flat). Some paved cycle paths. Especially if its dry, 28s will be ok.

  • What gloves are those, and would you recommend them?

  • Have to be honest the Link is pretty boring, good to get the miles in out of traffic, but not to enjoy off road per se. But it is doable on road tyres.
There must be a decent Tufnell patk to Guildford, crossing all the parks and then along the Thames and turning south along the Ver?. If you light up Opencyclemap on rwgps you should see the cycleable options.

  • Giro DNDs. Had em for years and they're pretty worn out now, I think that's my second pair. No padding and lightweight. This pair has become quite rough inside which is a bit annoying.

I guess I must rate them as a new pair literally just arrived at the door. There's a Giro.co.uk sale on atm with an extra 10% for newsletter signup.

  • Nice, thank you! For anyone else interested, the code is just GIRONEWSLETTER

  • Have to be honest the Link is pretty boring

Agree with this. I did a Portsmouth - Peaslake - Shoreham - Portsmouth and the downs link was the least enjoyable bit, other than the no cars thing.

Also Stan's Bike shack has gone so no coffee / cake stop.

Lastly, there was a farm house maybe half way down or so that used to have a flapjack honesty box, and they were very good.

  • Also Stan's Bike shack has gone so no coffee / cake stop.

Damn, I liked that place! A proper Oasis on that route. Sad.

  • I like the Downs Link ¯ \ (ツ)

  • Thank you all, gonna try the stayer cycles one tomorrow.

  • If you're bored on the downs link find the little bike shack and head up the rocky path of Beeding hill, you won't be bored
