  • Tore up my shoulder and I can’t bend my right arm back to grip squat bar. Shoulder has been taking months to heal and may need surgery.
I am trying to substitute leg presses for now.
Does anybody have suggestions for other squat substitutes?

  • Sorry to hear about your injury. Can you do front squats or goblet squats?

Otherwise you could switch to lunges / split squats / single leg squats, whichever you hate most / least

  • I can’t get my arm back for front squats.
Will try lunges and goblets though, thanks.
I used to do split squats with very light weights. Balancing an olympic bar is a workout in itself.

  • Belt squats are a great alternative, even if a little tricky to set up. They don’t load your lower back the same way but great for the legs and maintaining a squat pattern.

  • Depending how lucky you are, or unlucky, you may never be able to use a non-safety bar squat bar again.
I can't front or back squat with any real weight because my shoulder simply does not move in those directions.
Worth investing in alternatives early and just continuing.
Safety bars are OK for me, but almost none of my gyms have them.

  • If this will be ongoing could be worth trying to find a gym with a safety squat bar, a belt squat machine or a hack squat. Not sure on the exact position that's troubling you but a buffalo/duffalo bar might be a possibility too.

  • Im going to try that front squat on my Smith machine, thanks.
I had seen front squats before but with arms in a different position.

  • If you're on a Smith machine you can try "zombie" style front squats as well, with your arms straight out front.

  • So I tried front squats, zombie squat seems to work the best with my limited mobility. Using empty bar for now.
    Thanks zooey!

  • I’ve never heard of a zombie squat. I don’t think my shoulders would take the weight

  • Just gone to buy some protein powder - what has happened to the price ?!?!

  • Where are you buying from? I haven't noticed a significant different on sites like bulk or myprotein in the past 6 months or so.

  • Ditto on the branded stuff, like not even 10% on pre-covid (GSW still £28/£50 for small/big tubs for example) from the regular retailers. But seems a lot of the branded heavy discounters went bust/gave up over covid?

  • Maybe they only sell in the single market - exporting beyond it has costs which might make their margins not work.

  • 5kg on MyProtein is £165

  • Those sites have like perma sales tho, with the current discount code that comes down to 90. I've never bought whey but 90 for 5kg seems pretty fine.

  • I get all my supps from eBay. £17.99 for 5kg of unflavoured pea protein.

I’ll be the first to admit it tastes rank, but it’s so cheap.

    😂

  • Braver than I am! I tried unflavoured pea protein once and it's the closest I've come to throwing away the bag. Suffered through it tho. I use the bulk vegan blend now. Mixes pretty well even with 3 scoops in 750ml, and the vanilla flavour is inoffensive.

  • How would you guys feel about insect protein if it was available as a powder?

  • Don’t think it’d bother me

  • Me and my wife alternate. I’m tight, she buys the bulk pea protein.

    She’s a baller though. I’m a peasant

  • Don’t think it’d bother me

*As long as it doesn't taste as bad as pea protein

  • Pea product is pretty rank
