I don't think the history and lineage of the synthwave etc. genres meshes with Techno that well.
Not to detract from quality or enjoyment of it, just that Techno becomes such a big genre if you put these other types in. I think it's close to Electro but Electro and Techno were clearly defined and separate in the late 80's.
It was easy at that stage to hear the difference but these days the genre lines seem to be more blurred. I think it comes down to the huge amount of electronic music out there. It's difficult to keep a grasp of sub-genres. Lots of other reasons too.
