If he'd brought it in on the bike I would've just used my thumb on the seat stay, but this was easier than using someone else's bike, worked OK too, he needs a new wheel soon anyway so it's only a temporary fix.

I bought two sets, and they are indeed completely interchangeable. will report back when I’ve managed to fit them on the bike, but in the desk they look good

Touch tricky to see, but they fit! Had to pad them out a fair bit with inner tube and elec tape as the inner diameter of Omnium bars is a fair bit wider than handlebars. Stayed in so far, and the front ones will still come out if I ever need to fit the extender bar.
Does just mean I can’t store the bike on its end, but no really hardship for me on there one. And I sometimes bump the rear left light with my knee if I’m scooting alongside but not riding the bike.

Couple of bodges I’ve been using to ‘restore’ my old Flite saddles (with cuts, tears abrasion etc)
1st which is pretty effective, is dab superglue into the hole or whatever gap in the cover, then wrap really tight with an inner tube. When you remove the inner tube a few hours later (fingers crossed) a layer of butyl will be left where the tube was pressing down on with the glue, kind of sealing the hole.
The other method I’ve just started trying out, (sometimes used after the inner tube tekkers) is filling the hole / damaged area of the saddle with sugru and smoothing it flat. No idea of longevity but it feels pretty good.

Interesting. So you don't cut the tube at all, a layer melts into the superglue?
-
• #2436
Seems that way yes. Initially I did it just to hold a flap down while the glue dried, but when I peeled it off a layer of tube remained that made it a much more complete looking repair than I was expecting

Interesting. Well done.
I would appreciate if you could give us a small report after a while about the durability of your restoration method. -

This is super cool.

I'm in need of some LFGSS bodge wizardry:
I've got a frame designed for v-brakes. Naturally I want to try and put cantis on it because it's more difficult and it won't stop as well.
Front is fine. I've got a fork mounted cable stop. The rear, however is confounding me. Because it's a stupid GT frame, I can't use a binder bolt hung cable stop as the angle is way off that of the seat stays. The aforementioned fork mounted cable stop won't fit between the bridge and the seat tube. I can't think of another way of doing it - any ideas?

Can you mount one of these?

Yes. And I’m just enough of a tart to find it aesthetically unacceptable

With a brake bridge stop

I think what I need is some sort of clamp I can put round the seat tube, just above where the seat stays pass it, that has a cable stop on it but pointing at roughly the right angle.
Like this, but with some way of allowing the cable to come out of it in line with the stays

Just leave them disconnected, they will be the same effectiveness

okay, close the thread down, everyone go home, this wins it : )

How dare you! I’ll not have inconvenient truths spoken about canti brakes, thankyou very much.
-
• #2448
ew… stinky URL. I recall having a chrome steel canti mount that was fixed by a seat tube binder bolt. That’s maybe an option?

(I'm pretty sure) this rotates at the cable stop as well as the hanger so might give you the angle you need if you can get a very flexy cable housing (Jagwire have some?). Will brake like shit probably... But you've already accepted that fate by choosing cantis
Oh, it's a built in binder so this is no good

Could you put a bolt between the rear rack mounts and hang one of these from that?
Or even this

Oh that’s a neat idea, may well give that a try thanks!
