  • What chainrings are that? I have Dura Ace cranks and am looking for a replacement. I guess these look similar to Stronglite CT2's (the ones I was potentially going to buy).

    I'm loving the look though

  • Roast me, please. I feel like something is off on my build. Don't entirely like the look of it. I guess cutting the steerer will be an improvement. On that note, where do you all reckon I can find a steerer star nut thingy. I've been looking around on the internet but couldn't really find anything.
I really really liked that Colnage that @Flandria posted recently. This just looks silly in comparison.
Another thing I don't really like about my bike, a small 51cm frame, is that the handlebars feel like they almost hit the tyres so to speak. It's inherent to the bike, but I dislike it.
Maybe the cranks are too fat? Maybe it's the mismatch between Shimano and Sram?
    (I love riding it though)

  • Steerer length, aesthetically challenged cranks, black spokes, black stem and seatpost, BDHU

I think it looks fine really but those are the things I'd personally change if I could be bothered!

Are they carbon forks? If so, use an expander sleeve rather than a star nut.

  • I think some more attractive chain rings and bars with less drop and BDHU would sort this out nicely. The stem looks short relative to the top tube as well, so if you get bars that also have less reach then you could correspondingly lengthen the stem.

  • Yeah, rotate the bars and in turn raise the shifter position, which should reduce the reach. You could probably lengthen the stem by ~20mm. A less chonky seatpost would look nicer IMO

  • Cut your steere tube.

Clamping a stem on carbon steere tube without a compression sleeve inside can lead to cracking.

  • I think your Concorde's basically pretty too.
I'm using da 7700 on the 7800 crank arms; for me 7700 was the acme of form and functionality (but the stiffness of the 7800 on its bb is worth having). If you're looking at chainrings I think TA hegoa are nice: very machined, very light. Below is an early version of the cobra with semi-compact Hegoa rings. I also think black rings would draw attention back to the pink/white black fade of the frame. Shit, here I go sounding like a stylist, again.

  • This is hot.

  • Ah wow, this is lovely and somewhat familiar. Growing up my brother had a handbuilt white Reynolds frame on skinny mavic rims, blue bartape and black selle saddle.

I've always wanted to recreate it but with low profile wide carbon rims and DA9000.

  • My Serotta just got even MGOOFer. Upgraded with Columbus Minimal fork painted to match by Rychtarski, new bars, stem and seatpost and ofc even more modern groupset - Sram etap AXS (mix of force and rival)

  • 2 days later that da seatpost sheered across the joint with the clamp mechanism. I was going at a lick, luckily I somehow sensed its non presence —just before I heard the saddle hit the ground. Do not trust an Italian who tells you a vertical crack is insignificant. Plough your money into beautiful saabs.

  • Clever foreground.

  • Thank you all for the feedback.

I think I fixed the BDHU now. Also, cut the stem as you can see. I have looked for a compression sleeve on the internet but couldn't find one for a 1-inch steerer. I guess I could fabricate or 3Dprint something but for now, I reused the starnut that came with the fork when I bought it second hand. I'm not that worried about cracking it. If worst comes to worst, I'll get a straight blade steel fork.

About the aesthetically pleasing cranks; yes, I do agree to a certain extent. They are a little too fat and contrast the slim tubes of the frame. I looked around my parts bin (or maybe rather 'trash bin') and found some old (worn out) chainrings. I kind of like the look of both of them. The thing is that I'd like to get a 50 tooth, and I don't have easy access to a DA7800 50T chainring. Black chainrings could also look interesting indeed. I don't have any 130BCD black chainrings to test that though (maybe I could spray paint one of my spare chainrings).

The stem is 80mm. I don't think I'd enjoy riding a 100mm stem. I had a 53 cm frame before with a 90mm stem and I felt like I had to reach way too far. This is a 51cm frame (measured seat tube-headtube). I do agree that It would probably look better, yes.

Related to that is a more compact handlebar. Here I have yet some more challenges. This is a Deda Piega and when I measure its dimensions, it has 80mm reach and 130mm drop. I don't really know of many handlebars that are smaller than that. I guess that Nitto probably makes some 70mm/125mm handlebars...
I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for 48 or 49 cm frames so that I can have a normal length stem. I really hate the fact that I'm so short haha.

The seat post looks chonky, yes. I'd like to buy a seat post with 0mm of setback in the future.

Another idea I had is to get a silver stem, seat post and handlebars, and to change the bar tape to a light colour. The reason I'm reluctant to change thatbecause like this, I feel like the black paint around the headtube and the black forks really make a black cockpit an obvious choice. A glossy black stem is another idea.

AAAALSO; I'd love some 50mm carbon rims because these rims are the cheapest Shimano ones I picked up second hand, again. I don't want to spend crazy money on bikes but I'd still like to enjoy them to the maximum, that's why basically all of the parts on this bike are second hand (apart from the headset, BB, cables and cable stoppers, seat post and stem). Carbon rims are sadly heckin' expensive

  • I think you are being too hard on it, I like it ! Just the cranks are the wrong colour and shape, on a small frame they make too much of a statement. Personally, slim black cranks with silver rings; job's a good'un.

  • I think it looks good. Just in case, the black Hegoas in the pic. are 50/38 (standard 130 fitting) and I'm not using them. Condition is near perfect.

  • ... might as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb: I understand your thoughts about the black 'cockpit' but if you used, say, a white tape—fizik or somesuch—you would appear to lengthen the bike continuing the fade affect from the downtube and also, I think, suffer less visual interference, which was obviously bothering you, between drops and tyre tops. That would be a pretty cheap option too.

    It's a lovely bike.
I really should do something else now, really—dome nothing of any significance all bloody day.

  • Heres my old concorde with a full 105 groupset on mavic cosmic elite . With silver seatpost and a quill stem which i think looks better on a steel frame because off thin tubes.

  • I really like it. If it were me I just spend a bit more time detailing it to get it bang on. Desticker the rims, centre tyre logo's with valves, trim cables, slimmer black tape (I really like lizard skinz 1.8mm), matching cages and put the pump in your back pocket. You could also acetone the stem or there's cheap slim gloss black 1" alloy ahead stems on eBay that would match the headset and spacer better.

  • Nice! Good looking frame. The levers need to come up a fair bit though

  • ...thanks, I have long arms—my mother used to call me 'Inspector Gibbons'—and long hands, that's where they feel right. When I'm on the bike that is.

  • Concorde party…mine. Soon to be rebuilt
