It's a trade off - functionality is limited, it's a faff, and shit sometimes just doesn't work.
To do it well, you are restricted to a smaller hardware selection with custom ROM nonsense.
Even then, if you install apps from Play store (using Aurora or similar) you still end up leaking data - I tried installing soundcloud recently, and then got spammed on facebook (using a restricted facebook browser that also blocks stuff) for soundcloud related things.
If nothing else, it shows just how pervasive and insidious tracking is, and how difficult it is to avoid.
