  • Tbh I never thought anyone would chop a lock for tyres 🥺

    Never underestimate the cnuts

  • Fitted some of the new GP5000 TR S in 30c guise to my LB WR45 rims and they went on so easy I thought something was wrong. Seated immediately with loud, satisfying pings with just a track pump (removed valve core initially).

First ride and so far so good. Removed some bulky 35c Pirelli Cinturatos (they will be refitted in a couple weeks) and it's a big difference naturally.

  • Gravelkings have a poor loose fit. If you want a painless tubeless experience I’d go with another brand, they’re cheap for a reason.

  • Any recommendations for wide tubeless commuting tyres?

I was using 35mm Marathon Supreme in the tubeless version, but after 5 years one has definitely given up the ghost, and I rode my other bike with Gravel Kings Slick + on and the front tyre punctured on the way to work and the rear on the return, so needs to be something tougher than those.

  • Pirelli Cinturato, maybe?

  • Just looking at those.

  • yep, next best thing to Supremes

  • Where's he going

To the bike shop for some new rims by the looks of it.

  • I'll take that a forum approved then.

  • I was impressed by the Goodyear Connector tyres. Might try some of their mtb stuff next

  • Also I'd imagine that tubeless would be great for commuting - which you can do with the Pirellis

  • Use of tubeless for commuting is I think one of the most under appreciated/discussed use cases.

Commuting with tubeless is the absolute best. 3 years on my single speed commuter bike in central London without a single puncture. Amazing.

  • For sure - also because a puncture is the last thing you want when you're cutting it fine in the morning. Might even get inserts!

  • Ordered the Pirellis. TBH I've had the marathons for 5 years and been commuting on them solidly for 3 years so not a bad run for them.

  • Just wonder, those supremes, were they regular tires set up tubeless or some schwalbe tle/tlr version? i have them on one of my bikes (regular, not tle) and was thinking it they can work with milk..

  • One of my WTB Byway is a bit thin and I'm off to ride the TNR route in a few weeks. Just get a new one or any other recommendations?

  • Ridden to Bosnia, so far, from Scotland on the Pirelli Cinturatos in a 35c guise on 25mm wide rims (Pirelli says that's not at all advisable but it's fine) and I'm very happy. They punctured once, then sealed completely and I've since had them off and cannot find where the hole was, it's disappeared completely.

Anyway, a good choice I reckon.

  • (Pirelli says that's not at all advisable but it's fine)

wait, why? Mine arent that wide but strange thing to mention from them.

  • They were the tubeless version, and I had some Marathons before those that were the tube type that I tried to set up tubeless but they just wouldn't seal unfortunately. You might get away with one of those Stan's kits with the rubber rim strips though.

Or - make your life easy and get some Continental tubes that are the same size as the cavity of your tyre so they don't stretch much, and put sealant in those. I did this when I had a road bike, and I had a few punctures and all of them sealed, the tubes must have been ancient when I sold it.

  • thanks for that.
btw, once i've succeded with spray glue on inner side of tire, after that sealant worked. will give it a shot.

  • Its always been a thing. It's probably mentioned in this thread a few times.

They "fixed" their sizing with the GP5000s, hence the introduction of the 32mm width.

  • I've got 26x2.6 vert ramp tyres - Fat Frank or something off the Inbred
Also got some 700x45 Riddlers you could tour on if you don't mind some knobs.
Might have some other 700c skinnier stuff if you want it?

  • They are noticeable floppier than other tyres so can be troublesome to get fitted tubeless as the bead won't lock unless you really blast it with air. Booster pump is handy. It also means they're fussier than other tyres when it comes to taping.

  • The 26" are Crazy Bob

They're well used but I see no reason they wouldn't go a lot further.

  • Fat Frank

    Are you talking about me!
