I had tri bars on for LEL and a self-guided Paris>Bordeaux bikepacking thing, and the extra positions were greatly appreciated. It was those two rides that persuaded me to get a bike with larger volume tyres to help soften out the road buzz and better handle some untarmacked sections (in France) where the ground was a bit soft and my 28mm tyres sank in, forcing me to walk. So tri bars on a gravel bike seem like a fairly good idea for certain applications, to me.
