• The path out the back of capel curig is doable if you travel light as its a boggy farm track across the moraine then follow the ogwen cycleway on the old railway line through tunnels mint tarmac down to bangor harbour . You can get the train to london from there via chester and crew. Estimate your time then triple it . Its hard going around there.

  • I came flying down the main road from Llyn Ogwen to Capel Curig with a huge tailwind, and was knackered by that point so soft pedalling at 30mph was preferable to an unknown path. Could have definitely done with something as an alternate to the Capel Curig > top of Llyn Gwynant though; that road into the wind, knackered and on knobbly tyres was bleak. I came over from Llanberis via Dinorwig/Marchlyn Mawr, and up a bit of Lôn Las Ogwen which was beautiful, though they'd unfortunately run out of those vegan curry pasties at the Ogwen shop.

When Komoot suggested 10mph average I scoffed. Ended up barely doing that and was still absolutely done by the end. I'll be back in the summer and will head to the coast. I had planned to do Ffordd Pen Llech the day before after Stwlan, but had tyre issues so had to cut it short. I don't know how much fun it is beyond novelty value, though (Pen Llech, I mean, not Stwlan - that was unbelievably good).
