Thornton Heath. Big Jamaican/WI population here, who are surprisingly into the PJ celebrations, mostly because the elders tend to be big Royalists despite the bleeding obvious.
Anyway, yesterday I’m riding back from t’pub at about 7pm with my wife, after our first post covid (her) beer and we pass a house that usually has an Ethiopian flag and pics of Haile Selassie in the windows, occupied by an elderly Rasta. He’s outside in the front garden, friends and family, a gazebo, bbq smoker fired up, a huge bowl of punch, a sound system on full chat and he’s toasting over the top. We stop and listen to the proper old school reggae. We end up with them, plastic cups of punch in hand, chewing the fat, eating goat (unconnected) and putting the world to rights.
