I have to do a return trip in the car to Switzerland shortly. 2/3 days. If French SUL prices are the same as in the UK I reckon it'll cost be 500-600 quid in fuel. Plus autoroute fees and the Eurostar crossing. Probably rather more mileage than the crane though.

Visited a hotel with an epic garden and they had a lovely raised wall(?). I'll try and sort some photos out.

I went to Cambridge botanical gardens today for the first time. A little gem in the city.

Have been keeping an eye out since I saw this. Not nearly the same scale but found this in a building site nearby

My lawn is as bumpy as fuck. I'm about to put some seed down so planning to level it out with some topsoil first.
What's a good way to actually get it level? I didn't think it was that far off last time I did it by eye but it clearly was.
Bonus points if it requires minimal amounts of equipment beyond what the man in the street would have.

Way back the way to level was with pegs, piece of wood and a spirit level. I guess there is a more modern way?

Still good for the bugs, love a freebie

It's great. The glasshouse is so wonderfully rammed with plants. Did you discover the extra little glasshouse to the right of the entrance to the main one?

Anyone used these? Am I insane to consider them?

I used some when putting down some self leveling compound on a floor. I doubt they go deep enough to do your lawn that much good.
You can have mine if you want -

I have a vision of you doing a spiky tapdance all over your lawn with a look of intense concentration and possibly the tip of your tongue poking out :-)

Thanks for the offer. I probably need to read up on things first but will let you know. Laid some turf in March and, while it’s taken pretty well, you can definitely see the area we walk on most and the ground is really compacted. Thought a bit of mulch and walking over it might help?

Is anyone else plagued by sticky weed this year? And the ground elder has gone mental!
-
• #8693
Yeah the sticky willie as we used to call it is everywhere.

Unlikely to hurt. Water is probably important too.
More new turf might be less effort and cheap? -

Both edible, see links

Tempted to make coffee out of the sticky weed :)

I tried them in my last place. But there were so many stones the spikes just all bent.

Been throwing this away as a weed at the allotment
What a waste, will bring some home today and give it a taste -

Yep it is over a meter high and climbing the fence!
I had a taste, free vegetable I guess.
Wood aven roots & herbrobin are also edible and so are tulip petals.
I also asked about mpg of the self propelled crane.
Operator normally fills up at the Depot.
Got caught out last week. Filled up the diesel tanks. £560.
Lasted 2 days.
