  • Anyone else know any other high quality coffee bargains on Aliexpress?

  • Just got one of these for about half most UK places are selling them. Nice white backlight instead of the usual gross green too.

  • Gave that exact one to the guy who bought my Robot. Regret giving it to him. It responded so much faster than my Hario scale. Blugh.

  • My one criticism of the c2 is it's small capacity (but it'll manage a 2 cup pour over/30g if you fill it to the brim), so the max might not be a bad shout. I also noticed there's a "Timemore official store" now on AliExpress.
They've got the c2 with titanium coated burrs, but that's the only one I can see with that option

  • Do you know if a Clever fit on these?

  • Should fit a mug base, so yeah. Up to a kilo. I plan to use it for beans with the Moccamaster and beans / pour over while at my in-laws.

  • If it works like my one (it looks identical) the only problem is that the timer stops if the plate is unweighted - eg like when you swirl the coffee during the pour over process.
It’s great for espresso, but I find that quirk with the timer a bit annoying tbh.

  • Clever gets prepped on the scales alone, otherwise it would start draining immediately on a mug. Im pretty sure it would be too wide but a bit of plastic/cardboard the right size would help. Might take a punt if its only a tenner

  • It’d be a pain for a clever IMO.
Can post a photo of my clever on/beside it when I’m back home (next week).

  • the timer stops if the plate is unweighted - eg like when you swirl the coffee during the pour over process

I found this to be an issue too but restarting timer is only 2 button clicks, plus I'm not that precise in my brewing.

  • Anyone would like to give V60 a try?

Got clear Hario V60 (01 - one cup brewer) with full bag of filters (actually it’s new bag with additional 1/2 of box on top if I remember correctly).

    £10 for all.

    Reducing my equipment collection.

Also dropped by Wilfa Grinder by £5 from page back.

Collection in Hoxton or can post.

  • I ended up not going for a c2. I realised I wanted one that fits inside the body of an aeropress, which the c2 doesn’t.

  • Anything other than a Porlex fit the bill?

  • I just ordered a Rhino compact for £35 posted. I figured I’m not actually going to be using it that much - just camping and when we stay where we are now (in a house that only has a 50 year old moulinex coffee-eviscerator!). My main misgivings about it was that it had a hex rather than a flat at the handle interface, which seemed like it would be more prone to rounding. But I hadn’t read anyone mention that happening and as I said, I’m not going to be using it daily.

  • I've got pretty limited experience with hex vs flat (just Rhino vs various Hario grinders), but in my experience the Rhino (and Porlex with its penta bit) are much more robust than the Hario ones I've tried. Big benefit of the hex bits is being to pop a drill on the end if you get impatient (or being able to just use a socket if you ever lose the handle). Used a drill-powered Porlex for espresso for around a year or two and had no issues with that. Rhino only gets office use these days so 2 uses a week or so.

No reliability issues with either. Probably used the Porlex as a main grinder for 4-5 years and the Rhino for 1-2 and they're both still solid. Seen my fair share of wonky Harios though (and I'm a big Hario fan, just not their grinders)

  • Ah, that’s good to have some LFGSS-based feedback on the rhino. I was under the impression it was vaguely on a par with the Porlex, if a little more inconsistent at larger grind sizes, which doesn’t bother me.

The latest porlex version appears to have ditched the new penta in favour of a flat bit (like a flat screwdriver) which I would have preferred, but I do like the idea that the rhino would fit in my impact driver 😂

  • I've put my mc2 into v60 service, the difference to hand grinder in terms of how the brews taste is remarkable.

  • Never managed to get mine that well dialled in for pour over, although I suspect I should endured more than I did.
    Are they good/bad?

  • Apropos of nothing, I thought I was on the Watches thread and got confused as to why you want a watch that fits inside a coffee maker.

  • Well I didn’t before…..

  • It's definitely something to consider. Although my Aeropress was stolen last year, it'd be nice to know I could transport both in a tidy package if I ever picked up another! Grinder purchase on hold as new sandals took priority this week.

  • They're generally good. A couple tasted slightly over-extracted but I dialled it back a bit. What's most noticeable is my flask 1/2 of the brew, it is so much better tasting than usual.

Tbh I'm working daily to get it much coarser than at present still, effort though, half a dozen turns a day is more than enough.

(Fwiw still on Ibanda by Ancoats.)

  • ..what would be a good alternative to a Technivorm Cup-One?

Looking for a one cup machine as a gift, but that thing is just too fucking expensive for what it is 💁‍♂️

  • Just got a barely used ‘09 Gaggia Classic for £40. Even has the original paperwork. Mad happy!
