2022-05-30 - Rider down / Fatality - Mitcham Road

A cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run collision in the early hours of this morning near the BP petrol garage on Mitcham Road.

Metropolitan Police detectives are appealing for witnesses.

The police were called to the scene, not far from Mitcham Common, by the London Ambulance Service at 3.11am

Astounds me how anyone could be so callous to drive away.

Not a justification at all, just how I explain it to myself as I, too, am always astounded by this behaviour.

However in that moment of realisation of what you've just caused, the panic kicking in, no one around, many people would require a huge amount of self control, courage and integrity to remain on site and take full responsibility against the public opinion.
Who has that ? Very few and those who do, very rarely behave with stupidity.
In fact, some (many?) do come forward later on, maybe the day after, to take responsibility.

I've had at least 3 hit and runs (probably more, but those I can still remember quite well) and another instance where a driver lapped the block and had three goes at trying to run me down. So, it's not at all unexpected behaviour from the selfish human scum that populate this planet.

RIP cyclist and I desperately hope there's CCTV footage and justice can be done.
