  • well now i feel compelled to do something with it all

  • those halo rims are quite cheap, if i remember right.
buying a used ssp wheel mit the same rims should be easy as they are common at least in uk ...
selling the "old" backwheel should be no problem either.

    maybe i'm wrong.

would anyone be so nice to enlighten me: what frameset is this? thank you :-)

  • it's a 14 bike co ESB!

i mean this non sarcastically, i absalutely forgot i could sell these wheels if i bought new wheels

  • That yellow and orange build with the v brakes shlaps

  • your are very lucky, the ESB are rare.

yes, can relate to that. nearly always forget to sell stuff when swapped for something new... can't stop, won't stop...

  • partner is looking for a new bike - honestly this is all rather quick by even my standards.

have done no pushing here, merely rode around in the sun between various pubs and chip shops after work and on the weekends, gone to the forest once, seems to have got them bitten by the bug.

they love the outpost, why wouldn't they it's great

but have commented a few times on it being just not long enough and the'd like more bottle cages - it has a long stem as is , and frame space is already pretty minimal so no trip to winston to be had.

there are a few issues like having a u brake back and the wheels are little unerving (no brake track, look to be a bit wimpy) but as an oem bike it's fine! seems a shame to change stuff on it when it makes a great lock up.

So starting the process of going through looking at the next bike

spent the weekend on blue lug customer builds asking them to pick out what they liked, what sparked joy, what had "a vibe" - the common theme was something like a monstercross/atb/gravel chariot - a more modern version of what they have now really.

they're setting up ebay searches for stuff like "surly bridge club" and "genesis longitude" - have an eye on the bootzipper and some inbreds too.

all this has come as quite a suprise to me - while i do encourage everyone to own a bike for transport, they've really taken to cycling about on the weekends, often dragging me out most of the time.

if any of you have anything in the shed to fit a 5'7 person that sounds like the above - would be interested!

my sister has also done the same, she's also converted her friends to cycling now after asking for advice last winter and buying this lovely dutch esque step through - a cop did knock her off her bike couple of months back but she's on the mend.

was telling me yesterday she was chewing said cop out for giving her the helmet talk - lots of "helmet didn't protect me from you fucking my ankle" and "do you wear one when you walk down the street??".

honestly some big wins for getting people on bikes lately, im even back to some form of fitness as i cycled around london yesterday spinning out my 11-30 gearing. good summer of bikes ahead!

    Some shots from the weekend

  • thinkin about drop bars on the xcheck

    #GravelBike for summer

will be sure to be repositioning the levers to avoid being featured in #hdbu

sure they will come off just as quick as they go on - next in line after this is the on one marys and ergons

  • drop bars and a carbon fork?

Actually the ritchey fork would be radder on the esb

  • The esb is actually being passed to a friend who will get far more use out of it.

Nice to keep it in my local bike group and I’m sure it’ll live its ideal life of being wheelied around, as opposed to me nursing it to the shops

I was considering your fork for a pompino I still have stashed! But another friend in my bike group has piped up to take that! Back down to 3 bikes!

  • Happy new home

  • Is that Tim? I work with them!

  • A good egg. I look forward to seeing the ESB getting obnoxiously wheelied around our warehouse.

  • Boyfriend got me out of bed on a Saturday to queue outside Tokyo bike sample sale, all so they could get a bag with a skateboarding cat

3 months ago they didn't even ride bikes, safe to say the infection has taken hold quickly and since become terminal, moving past the chronic stage of just browsing eBay and making vague suggestions of what they want.

They keep asking me to “review their spreadsheet” - the spreadsheet is a project management formatted sheet for building their surly bridge club, with pricing and parts, links and different price increments

Truly, I am seeing my own reflection and fearing it

After this I picked up my cross check from SBC, £33 to switch bars, absolute bargain including 2 inners.

I would have wasted my entire Saturday and not trusted the brakes for 2 weeks, they got it done in less than 24 hours too, I love those boys.

    It looks sweet

    Photos of both things below

  • blue lug stem bag is GOOD

  • This ^

  • those blue lug goodies are addictive.
the cross check looks good with the drops.

  • Bike rides really nice with drops, love to have a gravel bike :)

Feels like the drop bar bikes I liked most, my old caadx and my old drop bar pompino, riding off road on drops is so fun.

The brakes still fuck me off

The rims are too narrow for the tyres which causes them to balloon

This limits the amount of the brake track which can be used due to the pad getting stuck on the tyre

The Paul brakes require a very close rim spacing to have a good and strong lever pull, which again, is limited by the ballooned tyre, they have to be pointed upwards

They’re constantly out of line which rubs the Finnish off the rim

Really the hubs need rebuilding onto wider rims, contrary to the description of the rims I don’t think they’re grails? The ballooning is too much for a supposed 19mm internal width (also can’t seem to see rim brake grails) they seem to closely match stand alpha rims tho, which are 17mm internal and the tyre profile would suggest this is correct.

But a few hundred quid to rebuild these onto adhns/ quills is out of scope, so I will just have to have the wheels marked and squeal occasionally, forcing me into an hour of trying to align the pads.

  • Never heard of rim brake Grails, so yeah, more likely to be a narrower road rim
