• Just to say - I was/ am jealous of you going car free, it wasn’t meant to be dismissive. The crust will be great and I check the thread when it’s bumped, but the lifestyle choice is what I envy. That and the climate obviously.

  • Didn't come across that way at all! I was just saying that Pasadena is not like LA in the bike friendly sense. West LA is not bike friendly at all.

It has its pros but definitely cons too. For example, in this photo, I live in the green circle. When I had a car, I could drive to trailheads on any of the red roads very easily and go and explore new places whenever I wanted to. However now, I am limited to the trailheads along the yellow line - because I hike by myself and don't really want to rely on anyone to drive me into the mountains. I could take an uber into the mountains, but there's no cell service up there so I cannot book an uber out of the mountains. Anyway, fortunately I really like hiking long distances and am happy to hike up into the mountains from the yellow trailheads, but still, the further into this range you go, the more wild it is, so its a shame that it'll be tougher to see that. With that said, I can easily rent a car :) Just can't do that kind of stuff as spontaneously as I used to.

ANd in the winter, you can ski at Mt Baldy on the right hand side of the photo and that whole area is absolutely incredible as well. It's only 45 minutes away by car. So again, just requires some car rental planning if I want to go there.
