Which Tyres?

  • For "light gravel" I'd stick with slicks. Especially if the bulk of riding is on road.

  • Yep. I've fitted GP5000 TL and tubed and the beads on the TL are HUGE which is the main problem - there's no give in them so they're tough to get on.

  • £75 per tyre for GP5000! Fuck me. It wasn't that long ago that GP4000 could be had for £30 ea.

  • TL is gone now. Don't know what the difference is but we're on to TR now

  • This is why this forum is so good.
The amount of valuable information that gets handed out for free on here is incredible.

  • Valuable information + hippy
    Does not compute

  • Even I had to check what I'd written to see what was going on.

But I'm right of course and in this case possibly of use too.

  • I'm only interested in tubed tyres for road.

I wanted to get another 32mm GP5000 for the grrl's (just for you) bike for matchy matchy. But I'm not paying $75 for a GP5000 - that's more than I paid for my fucking race tyres.

  • GP5000 are race tyres tho init. Just that everyone and their nans buys race tyres to ride 60k in Surrey

  • I'm looking at getting some Terreno Zeros which are marked as Tubeless TNT in 700x32c. A quick google suggest that TNT stands for 'tubes/no tubes'. Does this mean the tyre is suitable to be run either tubed or tubless? I only want to use them with tubes.

  • Yes, they are tubeless compatible but can be run with tubes. So they might be a bit overbuilt for your needs?

  • Thanks. Possibly yes; I'm looking for tyres for mixed road/gravel/dirt (mostly slick with some edge grip). They were recommended up thread with schwalbe cx comp (and had a few good reviews online). I've also been looking at G One All Rounds.

  • TR is hookless rim compatible, TL wasn’t

  • Fair point.

Though I'm looking at 32mm and maybe I'm old fashioned enough not to equate with race tyres. I'd still like to make her 1400k through the mountains as easy as possible.

Are there any tyres in the 28-32mm range that are actually available in the UK that are competitive with the GP4000/5000 stuff? I like the Pro 4 Endurance but they're only in true 28mm and roll slower than the Contis due to extra protection.

  • £34.95 each on sports pursuit for tubed version

  • sports pursuit

Is that the shit site that forces you to register before you can look at anything?

    sets lasers to Kill

  • Pirelli P Zero Race TLR are nice but I haven’t done enough distance on them to find out about puncture resistance

Not sure I’ve read the brows properly, they’re not likely to be priced that differently from GP5000s

  • Thats the one.
And then you just adjust your email settings so everything they send you ends up in the spam folder.

  • Ta. I see 700x28C shipped by Jun 9th.

  • What's the rush? 😂

  • 23mm only.

There's gonna be some gravel sections and comfort is important over the long distances so I'm sticking with 28mm+

I reckon I've got enough spares in the box to sort it out. She can roll mismatched tyres.

  • Ah shit, they had other stock yesterday 🙄

  • Anyone know how big 28mm GP5000 come up?

  • GP5000 are true to size unlike GP4000
