There is one of those gently rusting away parked on a nearby street. Lot of gaffer tape holding it together. A distant relative in the US owned one for a while in the 80s. Unsurprisingly he sold it on due to both rust and reliability issues.

just gone weak kneed looking at it.
My GTV has just gone up for sale on ebay .
My new commute means I need something I can put the Brompton in.
I don't need to sell it though so if it sells it sells . -

Roof line defo echos this , but I couldn’t get past the minilites either .
I went past it yesterday… no more reveal -

Am I being thick, but doesn't a Brompton fold? Is it still too big for the gtv?
-
• #71082
We definitely had an Ascona B coupe as a UK registered car
-

It's still too big .
GTV is ridiculously impractical , it made my 595 Abarth look like a people carrier. -

So just had a phone call ref the GTV being on ebay . Proper chap , and I spent 5 minutes telling why its the best thing in the world and he'd be an idiot to even consider buying anything else 'cos I mean look how pretty it is .
Then 10 minutes telling him why he shouldn't buy it , as the turning circle is appalling , its very thirsty , you can't get anything in it , and you can't get out of it unless there is a huge gap next to you. Oh and you can't see out of it .
I'm not sure I should be in charge of this sale , not sure my hearts in it. -

Anyone got a proper jack I could borrow for the coming weekend?

Right Hand Drive?
The Ascona B was the MK1 cavalier here.
Don't know then.
-
• #71088
Hmmm my memory of it is somewhat patchy, it was ~iron oxide red, 2 door, but it didn't have the cavalier front end like that

• #71089
How big is it? Reckon I can strap it to the back of a motorbike?

Have been googling and found press release pictures from GM of UK registered right hand drive asconas B. Even found sales brochures for the Kadett, ascona, manta and rekford from the late 70s and early 80s.
Thought that at the end of the 60's early 70s GM decided that Opel was the better brand for Europe and Vauxhall was a british brand so better for the UK, or areas that didn't like the germans. But the two pooled resources. So the Opel brand must have had their own dealer network.

Here are some Opel UK '70s ads. Ascona B:

Manta:
https://www.pinterest.co.uk/pin/479000110361401956/According to several posters here https://autoshite.com/topic/28414-vauxhallopel-dealerships/ there was a separate Opel UK dealer network until 1982. I can't find any photos.
Here's a combined Opel/Vauxhall/Bedford dealer, in the 80s I think
https://howmanymade.files.wordpress.com/2017/10/vauxhall-c86.jpgI had a new Cavalier Mk 2 in 1983, which I loved. I'm pretty sure there was never an Ascona C for the UK, because I would have been extremely excited about it and would definitely be able to Bore for Britain about it. I remember being fascinated by an Ascona C I saw in France. It was a bit of a disappointment, because unlike the previous Asconas it hadn't been given its own nose and headlights. It was just a Cavalier with different badges.

i love SAABs
Surely 1 of these could be converted into a MTB carrier/camper?

Such a shame Scoobies rep is foeva marred by boi racerz...
-
• #71095
I mean on one hand yes but on the other hand they are plasticky rally heroes for the road, it's not like they were ever going to be anything other than pretenders to the Cossie crown

But will my Brompton fit in it ?

Had a fiat coupe for a while (miss it!) which was the fiat version of the same thing (an old Fiat tipo based I think?), but with 5 cyl + 6 speed + 17" 225 tyres = turning circle greater than that of a building. Makes renault megane 220/225 (?) look nimble by comparison. Twice got it stuck in a carpark entrance and had to jack it up/push off the jack to get out without damage.

There was an Astra prepped for group B that was in same livery too right? But then group B ended before they entered it anywhere? Or I am imagining that?
Edit, yes exists, but 'Group S'?
When you think they start with a regular road going car shell and just add demon tweaks parts... .till you lift any bodywork and it is revealed that only the model badge is factory, usual level of tubular space frame wizardry.

Looks like a 22B. Shame only 400 odd BHP, that's about the same as my old methanol injected 2001 bugeye lol
