  • Glad there's another South park fan in the house.

  • Current highest bidder emails me asking to cancel their bid as they've won the same item in a different auction and now longer need the item I'm selling if they win. I can cancel the bid, but should I?

I think it's actually against eBay policy to retract bids? On the other hand if this person does win, will they pay?

  • They can retract the bid themselves no?

How close to the end of the auction?

I’ve done that before when i bid on something by accident

  • It's a dickmove, but they won't pay and I don't see what you gain by trying to make them buy something against their will (and missing out on any other bidders from this auction). Call them a cunt and direct them to auctionsniper which allows them to manage multi-bids for similar items without resorting to such dickishness.

  • Cheers I'll suggest that

  • Indeed. Preparing snotty response as we speak. Thanks!

  • Am I likely to notice a difference in performance between a Deore BR-M6100 caliper and a cheaper Deore BR-MT410 caliper? Weight isn't really a factor, it's for my anchor of a commuter bike.

  • I’ve done that before when i bid on something by accident

How do you bid on something by accident?

  • well accident isn't the right word. I was on mobile moving around etc and chucked a pretty careless bid on something, thinking it was for a complete bike not a f&f. In my defence that detail wasn't in the title or pictures it was just written at the bottom of the description aha. yeah i\m much more careful these days.

Also, once i managed to hit 'buy it now' while just holding the phone in my hand, was looking at a listing sat waiting for the bus and when I got on and sat down again I saw i'd hit BIN and confirmed. whups.

  • I once became the owner of a 57cm frame after my 52cm-riding friend did some drunken eBaying.

  • I've got a few things (umbrella, blender, external hard drive, etc) that are plastic. They're a few years old now and the plastic has kind of degraded to a sticky, rubbery thing. Any ideas how to fix this and in particular get rid of the sticky element?

  • Any ideas how to fix this and in particular get rid of the sticky element?

Without diving down the polymer chemistry rabbit hole, the TL;DR is that you can't

  • Cheers. After rubbing it with various things I suspected that may be the case. Was hoping I may be able to either get rid of it or cover it up.

  • Its up to you, the seller, really.
Police arent gonna come after them.
They probs wont buy yours too.
    Would you?

Just relist it or the 2nd highest bidder can be given it, second chance option or summat. Ive won items after losing them that way in the past.

  • Jesus wept

  • I was once really unwell with food poisoning. Between l’ardeche and the ferry we had to stop over 10 times for me to vomit or explosively shit. I was so unwell I couldn’t tell which way was up, I was convinced I was sitting upside down for a significant part of the journey. I was hallucinating like I had taken mushrooms. When I got home I thought I had gone straight to bed but woke up still delirious wondering “did I?” “No I can’t have” until I checked my emails and confirmed I had purchased a bargain set of nearly brand new chris king hubs. The had been built into a wheel but never used.

  • I had the soft touch rubber on some headphones go all sticky and soft - managed to remove it using DIY cleaning wipes (which I think have a mild solvent in them).

Headphones are now stripped back to hard plastic and look fairly presentable.

  • This is the proper approach to buying anything CK.

  • Easiest way to rip some audio off a BBC radio clip?

  • GetiPlayer works for radio shows too. Normally just open the page in browser and hit a button.

Edit: Sorry, that's the command-line version. There's a nice Mac app that does the functions in a nice GUI:

    Not sure about Windows.

  • Nice, that's what I wanted to hear, thanks. Either would be an improvement on the fucked caliper that's on there at the moment anyway.

  • Quality, cheers!

  • I wanted to stop my W10 screen locking while I was away from my desk, so I played an 8hr YouTube of a fire. Just come back and it was locked.

    How come?

Does streaming a video not count or something? Should I have full screened it?

  • Seems a very inefficient way to prevent it locking.

Mine only locks if it actually goes to sleep (even if the monitor turns off), so try just disabling that.
