  • Sort of related - until recently I didn’t get ‘Tyler the creator’ but listened to a load after watching this
interview and some of it is catchy and good music

    @owl @withered_preacher thanks I’ll get into these

  • I'm not big in to country but I like a bit of Daniel Romano. This is a favourite. Live video chosen for the fun hats, furious looking bassist and drummer that looks like a paramilitary Garth Marenghi.

  • Nice, that bassist smells a rat!

  • Soft Cell

  • What tainted your love?

  • Gloria Jones could make it better.

  • I hated all of it at the time. Human League, Yazoo, Tears for Fears, Soft Cell, Depeche Mode....I actually now think a lot has really stood the test of time

Torch and Bedsitter are great pop records

  • Rick fucking Astley. Belinda Carlisle. Richard Marx. Whitesnake. Poison, all that dross.

Also, popular music since 2010; all that autotune and handclap, it's utter puke.

  • Just looking at the first page of this thread, with a couple of folks wondering about Beta vs VHS, in case anyone's still wondering twelve years later, there's an excellent YouTube channel called Technology Connections that delves into this question in glorious full-blooded Aspie detail.

  • Beta vs VHS

My folks bought a Video 2000 player. Don't know if that was because they'd done some research (technically, it had several advantages) or simply that was the horse the local vendors had backed and it was in stock.

  • referring to women as 'females' - screams incel/ mysogonist to me but it seems some people do it who are not?

  • It's specifically associated with a particular kind of misogynist (and the language they use) but 'female' as a word still also just means female.

  • In at least some of those cases, it's people trying to talk carefully about issues regarding biological sex in a time when trans rights and awareness of the difference between gender and sex are things. Sometimes the intent is just that, sometimes it's petty TERFiness.

  • The Middle Class

  • I agree, the constant use that is.

I think its more that when people use it they wanna sound informed and polite but come across the total opposite.
It always seems like a, sorry to be crass, dumb person word to me than a misogynistic word. Especially when you see the poorer (I guess uneducated) black american women using the term it cant just be painted as sexist.

  • I've never gotten a handle on who the middle class actually is. Sometimes I think I'm middle class, then I see people who make ten times what I make called the same.

  • A bit like when the gammon use archaic language eg. ‘we the people’ in a bid to add weight to their frothing.

  • How much sherry do you drink?

  • Maybe not enough to qualify, last one was about 25 years ago.

  • Class isnt about money.

Jeff Skinner certainly isnt upper class but he is as rich as them.

  • So what defines the middle class?

  • Class in the UK is very nebulous but when you know you know, money plays a small part though

  • Yeah, much more nebulous out here in Canader as a lot of the immigrant population came to escape that very thing.

  • I'm a big music fan spanning most genres but I've never 'got' Bob Dylan.
