  • it does not necessarily mean you truly have OCD

  • Have you not seen the Movistar Ortlieb bar bags?

  • I wonder if he can command a million or more at ISN? Especially if he isn’t allowed to go to the tour, he could get try and get the record in their jersey.

  • Oof. DVB move to JV close to confirmed at €2m/season. That squad is mad.

    https://www.cyclingnews.com/news/transfer-shake-up-at-ineos-arensman-in-van-baarle-out-carapaz-open-to-offers/

  • Why? He’s a great foil for Van Aert in the classics and is a top tier domestique for the Grand Tours. €2 million is a lot, but Ineos have been paying Kwiatkowski that for years for exactly the same role.

  • Kwiatkowski's palmares is much better than DVB's, he is effectively being paid a top race winner's wage to sacrifice himself and not win races much of the time, so is a bit of an anomaly. I agree with That squad is mad, 2m is mad money for a non-team leader.

TBH, it's mad what Ineos have being paying Kwiatkowski too and I'd love to see DVB moving to a team where he isn't "just" a posh domestique.

  • Mad good. Can’t wait to see him hooning with Christophe, Wout, etc.

  • The guy won PR! He's been kicking on the door of big races for a few years. Arguably about to hit prime. 2m seems cheap.

  • Hectic start today.

  • Bad day for my fantasy squad but a good day for Dutch cycling.

  • Breakaway win?

  • Ach. Tommy.

  • And he's back.

  • Brilliant race by Jumbo.

  • What’s with the matching socks in the studio??

  • GCN merchandise, I believe.

  • Have we done the Froome tour of the alps video already? Boring as hell but interesting that he admits banging his head in a crash, feeling groggy and sick but rode to the finish and carried on. People will say that’s cycling but secondary head knocks are bad, you wouldn’t want to crash again whilst feeling like that, and it seems cycling has a way to go to catch other sports. Not sure what the solution is though, the rugby style off for ten mins for a HIA doesn’t work.
Does pro cycling have a formal return to racing protocol after a head knock?

  • GC teams risk pulling this back for the sprinters at this rate.

  • I clocked that as well, and I was surprised by the way he glossed over it as he has recently been outspoken on safety.

There was quite a bit of discussion about it last year when Tao was pulled out of Paris-Nice after a crash – pulled out by Ineos rather than the UCI AFAIK. I also remember chat when George Bennett crashed and he looked concussed on the side of the road, and, I think, he needed to change his helmet, but he was put back on by a mechanic and kept riding.

There is a UCI concussion protocol, but rarely do the medics get there first and the teams are incentivised to get the riders back on. I’m not sure how you would enforce it.

And I haven’t heard of any ex-riders suffering in the way that American football, rugby and other contact sports have, where it seems to be inherent rather than unfortunate.

  • A sensor in the helmet that detected an impact above a specific force could be used by the UCI to pull a rider out of the race.

  • Good luck with that. All I’m asking for is a tin of paint.

  • Sloppy by MVDP to let two Lotto riders get away.

Not entirely sure why the Bardiani and Movistar riders are doing so much work.

  • Gabburo is cool.
