Really interesting film, made up of video clips from a captured Russian officer’s phone. English subtitles available.

Just a little update from the eastern border of EU. Finland is really joining NATO and Ruzzia cut off electric supply. Lucky that We got plenty of peat to burn, but it is not great for global warming. There seems to be some minor issues with bank connections, but otherwise all is good. hopefully Putler does not come up with Any other stupid ideas. I would hate to see warships burning outside of my home town.

Judging by your comment about the ship, I guess Kotka is your hometown? I've spent my erasmus in Lappeenranta - good memories, beautiful nature. Also a lot of Russian exchange students which now is no more from what I heard? Used to notice a lot of Russian speakers shopping as well.
Erdogan is against Finland and Sweden joining NATO, I wonder if members have a veto right?

Will have to watch the whole thing later, but uncle Yuri is one classy guy.

That failed attempt to bridge the river just gets more jaw dropping, after a couple of days of drone flights they've counted 82 destroyed or abandoned tanks and vehicles in the area. Apparently they let them build the pontoon bridges and let them all cross then blew the bridges and ambushed them as they panicked and try to go back.

Yes, but Turkey can decide not to vote, and that would still allow Finland to join
-
• #2684
That might depend on the EU overlooking Turkey’s human rights record and allowing them to join.

Indeed. As the Twitter post I found it on pointed out, it does little to dispel the idea that Russians have alcohol problems.

This is also pretty shocking...

The Russian side of Donetsk is giving their called-up soldiers rifles designed in the 1890s. If anything should tell them that Russia doesn't give a shit about them and they're just a convenient excuse, that should be it.

Ukraine also uses a machine gun which is over 100 years old but they have a reason for that - it has a water cooling so it can shoot for extended period of time.
As for those guys - I guess time will tell if their weapons are as effective when they meet Ukrainians with their shiny new m4a1.

What an absolute waste of life.
As much as I dislike what’s happening I can’t help feeling sorry for them on an individual level

There are some weapons that make sense and some that don’t. A sniper with a Mosin with a good scope, sure. For untrained infantry it’s as much a death sentence now as it was in Stalingrad

Thanks!

Presented with the caveat that these are unverified statements and could very well be a second hand rumour that they've chosen to focus on in order to justify surrendering, but still...
🇺🇦: what do you mean “finished off”?
1: just like that, a wounded soldier is laying there and the commander of the battalion just shoots him with the gun and that’s all.
1: young guy, wounded laying on the ground. Commander asks him “can you walk?” No? He just took out his gun and shot him.
2: not even just one. the important part is it wasn’t just one. The commander shot 4-5 people this way. young guys…https://www.reddit.com/r/ukraine/comments/uq18zl/russian_pow_tell_stories_of_how_their_commanders/

Sometimes soldiers get serious or fatal wounds. But there is no way to get them to an aid station. So the choice is a: let them die a slow agonizing death or b: shoot them and end their misery.
Having said that there are pretty shocking vids of Russians abandoning wounded comrades, leaving them to bleed out in open fields while the others run away.

shoot them and end their misery
There was a lot of that in Vietnam, if this was realistic https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Short-Timers
