Are 36 OP’s unobtainable these days?
-

Not totally (in that ADs will let you put your name down for one, which they won’t for many models), but you’ll be waiting a long time if you have no purchase history with an AD. Even with some purchase history you might be waiting 6, 9 months, who knows. Apparently there’s less stock coming through these days. Don’t know if that means it’s being redirected to China or what.

I had a call from my local AD (R L Austen in Chichester) saying they’ll no longer be a Rolex AD, so they’re unable to deliver on any of the watches I expressed interest in (not that I was waiting). I wonder what happened there, last time I checked they were on their way to be an authorised Rolex service centre.

The best way to lose your Rolex AD status is to charge more than retail (say, if you were selling out of the side door), or for the staff to be buying the stock.

You mean publicly caught doing so. If it got out or you admitted too it. And therefore Rolex is forced to do something.
Have they not said they do not care what their ADs are doing as long as they do it quietly.

Interesting. I was thinking it’s something to do with the fact/rumour Rolex is going to cut the ADs out of the equation.

I have 2 Habrings. First was the original Time Only, which Richard turned into a semi skeleton for me. My daughter now wears it at University.
The second is a 36m time date. I got a new strap and asked the bloke under Piccadily Circus tube to change it as I did not want to scratch the watch. He was quite impressed with it.

I think he worked on the GMT (or rather UTC) module on my IWC?
incredible value when you consider what some brands are charging for a swiss private label manufacturer made watch. -
• #64468
yes, I think he was the sort of inventor of it when at IWC. He and his wife Maria are top people. When proper artisans are brave enough to set up alone they are worth supporting early on. They have a good niche following now; prices have gone up but they have not gone mad.

I don't think that's the case - from the little they say on the issue it sounded to me like they were very strict on it.
What they definitely do is leave the job of allocation to the ADs. They send stuff to the AD and it is up to them how they decide to allocate it to customers. Rolex doesn't get involved in that. But they don't tolerate either marking up of prices at retail or selling to staff (the latter I was told by a "Rolex ambassador" / sales rep).

Like AP? Wouldn't be surprised. They'd have to build a new network of boutiques but I guess they can afford to take their time.

when I work out how to do it I will. Will also ask daughter to send the skeleton pic - as soon as she is back from clubbing.
