They want £100k extra for the barn
So cheeky £350k on a 2yr flipI know we generally avoid price speculation / doomscrolling on this thread but I really can't see how the market supports a c. 30% gain in 2 years. I think the WFH revolution was slightly overstated and every macro indicator is pointing against the housing market in the next 12-18 months.
When financial assets worldwide are down 20%+ it seems unlikely that UK housing is totally unaffected (despite the weakness of GBP).

The Modern House : Always Genuinely Oversold

I’m not sure they even bought it to live in - seems to have been used as a location shoot.
You can make a decent amount of cash from shoots if your house ticks a few boxes. It is, however, incredibly disruptive/invasive so can understand not living there during them - we've moved out a few times for bigger shoots. Not sure it would make financial sense to have a whole separate house just for that though!

I did have to laugh/despair at the two properties which listed here recently on TMH - their valuations are bonkers, total finger in the air stuff. needless to say they've not shifted either, despite being listed at the beginning of april and when the market is still going gangbusters

Yep - we would offer 950 :)

A friend did a shoot there so I have their invoice. Could well be enough to do one a month and cover the mortgage (especially if planning to flip after a couple years)

950
A good starting point but I suspect their floor is at least price + stamp - £975?

@Tenderloin yeah we’re in Herts. We were in the middle of nowhere for three years or so but have since moved into the centre of Harpenden which suits us much better for this period of our lives. Being very remote was ace in terms of space, peace and weekend exploring but it was really hard with three kids under three because we are super disorganised. Every time you forget milk or something it was a real pain to bundle everyone in the car or whatever! We’ve got another kid on the way in a month and I’m happy we’re walking distance to shops / restaurants / mates / train station.
Horses for courses and that, but if you’ve got a little one then as others have said, location beats property in my view!

If you can get one a month...the more it's used the less popular it becomes. But that place looks like it offers a few different options and if for editorials/photoshoots rather than film/TV they can probably pack them in.
As I said you can do well from them. We've had 2 decent size TV series in this year and a couple of ads so they have paid for holidays. We have had the hall painted 4 times though which was a pain. -

Where’s the link to this TV dream house?

Hope you have this!

My sister's place in the country was hired by Netflix last summer as a location for a new film they're producing (I'm sworn to secrecy on what it is). Apparently the fee paid by Netflix covered the cost of resurfacing the tennis court and replacing the heating system for the swimming pool. It's alright for some.
Neither my sister or her husband play golf or have ever been seen near a golf club. As far as I know.

can retractable awnings look nice? anyone have them off their back french/bifold doors?
seem practical but very old person

Sounds about right. Netflix have a lot of cash - not that they pay higher rates, but use more days in the prep. We had 4 days prep and 2 days takedown for a single day shoot earlier this year.

Our old place has been used twice in 40 years. Not really a money spinner, tbh, although the £1,000 last time was still welcome.

Good trails near Royston.

There's a few OG ones from the 70s around here, mainly shiny plastic green and cream striped. I think yes!

i have been in a lot of location houses, what always amazed me was that the owners could be bothered with the hassle of having a crew taking over the house for a day all for £600-£1200 when the house is 1-4million.
the houses were nearly always ‘posh’ and expensively furnished/fitted out.i assumed it was so they can drop “we had Idris Elba in the other day” at their next dinner party.

I don't know, some people seem to run their finances shockingly close to the edge. Your £2 mm house occupant might have £200k of equity and the thick end of £10k in monthly mortgage payments against volatile income. Defeasing a grand of that in a bad month could be quite welcome.

• #53122
Really? Christ, a mortgage that size would terrify me
-
• #53123
Very unlikely. Can’t imagine many peoples first house is a 2 mil family house. Daddy would have bought them a flat in Hackney first with cash for 500 which is now 750.

Nah, plenty of "self-made" city boys are reliant on their bonuses!
Why…..why even bother to engage?
