  • That sack weighs 4 stone.

    That sack weighs 56 pound.

    That sack weighs 56 pounds.

    That sack weighs 4 stones.

    Yeah, English is weird.

    edit: From wikipedia

The stone remains widely used in the UK and Ireland for human body
weight: in those countries people may commonly be said to weigh, e.g.,
"11 stone 4" (11 stones and 4 pounds), rather than "72 kilograms" as
in most of the other countries, or "158 pounds", the conventional way
of expressing the same weight in the US.[38] The correct plural form
of stone in this context is stone (as in, "11 stone" or "12 stone 6
pounds"); in other contexts, the correct plural is stones (as in,
"Please enter your weight in stones and pounds").

  • 158lb is conventional? I guess my left leg may weigh around 30lb… off to find the hacksaw (need to conform).

  • Barry's coming across as being

    1. A really unpleasant person
    2. Quite dim

Sherborne said he had wanted to search WhatsApp messages held on Watt’s phone but it had been dropped over the side of a boat and was now “lying at the bottom of sea in Davy Jones’s locker”.
Vardy asked the court: “Who is Davy Jones?” The judge intervened to explain the reference.

  • I’m surprised Vardy wasn’t aware of the Monkees although that could have caused greater confusion 😂

Well, it would. You send off for them, packet arrives, you add water and all you get is some fucking shrimp.

  • Isn't it saying - stone in UK and Ireland, kg in most other countries, lb in US.

  • That’s because in the USA (unless you are well off) it is a competition for high numbers. I believe that there are prizes.

[edit] Misread your post. Yes. I was (and am) being silly.

  • Things you love to see:

White private school boys are the new disadvantaged, says Cambridge academic

State sixth form teaching can be hard, but headlines like this make it all worthwhile.

  • Who was it that said, When you're born into privilege, equality feels like oppression

  • Lol, the hardship of having to go to Durham or Ivy League school in America

  • The reduction in the proportion of public school entrants to Oxford and Cambridge couldn't be because they were previously seriously overrepresented, of course.

  • Surely children of non-doms could just pay their way in as foreign students anyway... (full fees, obvs)

  • Got to be easy to win a by-election when a Tory nonce has been kicked out, right? But Labour gonna Labour...

  • But Labour gonna Labour...

I'd say its more Momentum gonna Momentum at this point.

The Times ran an article last weekend based on an interview with somebody who was at the "Beergate Party" who claimed that nobody was working, everybody was getting pissed and no work was done during or after the meal. Turns out that it was somebody from Momentum trying to stick the knife into Starmer. Its so fucked up.

  • I am disappointed as well with some aspects of Starmer, but this feels very childish to me by now.

It's like if they cannot have Labour, then nobody can.

  • The 2019 GE was a shocking one for Labour in Wakefield. Turfed out by the Tories and the Lib Dems took a big slice of the Labour vote too. The biggest voter issue was Brexit according to the local press, closely followed by "but socialism".

The idea that they could put a true left winger up as a candidate and expect to win is bonkers.

  • And one who loves a bit of the old anti-Semitism, as well.

  • After having lived just down the road from from Wakefield I would say a bit of Anti-semitism would have been a vote winner there, they did vote Tory in 2019, Boris’s anti-semitism might not be front page news on the mail but it’s strong.

  • In case you aren't tired yet of being accused of being lazy for working from home

  • Not sure he's made his point so well there the stupid cunt.

  • ‘Abulafia said that teachers at Eton College were puzzled by the sharp reduction in the number of pupils gaining places at Oxbridge, which halved between 2014 and last year’.

  • ^^^Boris bemoaning working from home whilst defending a work meeting (not a party) he had in his back garden.

Rees Mogg warning of employers 'offshoring' labour. He is quite happy with Somerset Capital, the fund he owns a stake in having is management 'offshored' to the Cayman Isles.
