  • Is it though? Basic hub motor, basic parts everywhere, not terrible, but not some amazing deal, once we get into 2023 you have zero chance of getting any other accessories for it as Decathlon will discontinue it and leave you hanging*
Yuba longtail (spicey curry or the other one) or even Xtracycle if you can get them over here over that Decathlon long tail, in the 'budget' (anything under £5k is kinda budget unfortunately in this super niche corner of bikes) cargo bike market Yuba are pretty good, some folks on here have them and rate above Kona/Surly for real world performance (i.e. not a wet noodle).

*Source. I worked there for my sins for a bit, they give absolutely Zero Fs for most of their staff and their products once beyond the season that a quirky product was launched in

  • I thought it was too good a leal to be actually a good one.

i was also toying with the idea of getting a omnium mini-max frame and dump all my compatible parts on it and also get a bafang bottom braket motor.

i have a 18kg kid and another one on the way, i guess its pretty standard family setup....
    this would cost:
    1000chf frame
    1000chf bafang
0 chf parts i alredy have
500 chf for extras and stuff

would get 2500c chf for an electric omnium mini max... right on my price bracket

dont see many omniums for family service....more rieseMuller and larry/harry and terns.... so maybe its a crap idea...

    Just found this: https://www.babboe.fr/babboe-slim-mountain
a bit out of the price i wanted and kinda ruins the cargo capacity...

  • CHF, are you in Switzerland?

This looks like it is about the same level as the decathlon, they are very well priced when new.
Have no experience myself, but looks less proprietary than the decathlon.
At that price you could change to bafang and probably still pay less than for the decathlon?

  • Here’s how we carry a baby and 3.5 year old on a mini-max. Rides like a normal bike, fits in awkward spaces and on the roof of the car so we use it everywhere.

We’ve also just ordered a larger 600x800mm euro container for the front so they’ll both be in there, the youngest in a Melia toddler seat as recommended above. This is for a 4 day tour in France later this month.

We live in East Sussex by the South Downs, so run 30t up front and 11-50 at the back, never spin out and not had to push up anything… yet.

  • Omniums can do the job, weight is just higher up. Suits smaller kids in a baby seat as can stick two of them on a cargo and >1 on a mini max (1 proper mount 1 kind of make it yourself). Still stick a regular kid seat on the back, Thule Yepp with frame will clip onto seat tube just fine.

With the price of premium cargo's being kinda high, if you already have a frame and it fits you then go with that and modify away!
