Except…
…aero bars aren’t meant to have to tops parallel to the ground, they are supposed to be angled down at the front. They are not to cut through the air cleanly, but to defuse the air over your shoulders once you are in the drops. Well that’s what I was told by the nice chap a specialized when he gave my his old SWorks aerofly bars, but shhhhh… -

Good example here. It's the same with those 3t bars everyone used to run, too many would go for a flat bar-hood transition when the bars weren't designed for it and it ruined the angle of the drops.

Great video. Don't know about the aero bit but asgree with his bdhu comments.
Yours looks fine! -

One observation from experience, is that BDHU on compact drops often shortens the stem clamp to hoods distance, necessitating a longer stem. Which, to my eye, often makes the bike look better anyway.

Thanks, that explains a lot. I’d always had the aero tops parallel to the ground.
The fronts on my aerofly bars do indeed point slightly down now that they’ve been adjusted.I can’t believe I’m only just learning this now.

Those levers are bastards though. In no position do they look right.

Initially I really disliked them, but I've actually grown the love them too.

I think the most recent is most good, and you’re wild with the left bar end shifting the rear derailleur. Aint nobody gonna tell you how to do bikes.

To think I let big Maggie do my bike fit two years ago. No wonder I need bdhu

Still a nice bike ☺️

I am inclined to agree about the shifters bit not the drops - maybe if I were stretched out more I’d need them angled but my reach isn’t all that long

Thanks - It's been years since anyone's questioned my set-up and you make a good point!
I've not fitted oldschool aeros to compact bars before and will continue to experiment and see how things turn out -

Bit hard for me to comment really as I don't ride my road bikes anymore, but:
- In the old days I tended to ride either in the drops or with my forearms flat on the tops, holding onto the tops of the levers, when pushing on
- When meandering down a lane I'd have my hands very loosely on the bars, more often than not on the tops/like pushing a pram
Due to being in the drops when I wanted the brakes I (and photographs may confound me here) generally aimed for a vertical brake lever first, smooth line with the tops second.
With compact drops I do aim for a straight line from stem to top, as it were, for literally no other reason than it looks nice, and most of the time it also means that the end of the bar is pointed at the rear brake bridge, as is proper.

please sell me a Serotta
Really learning a lot from this thread! Reminded me about Peak Torque's
opinion on drop bar rotation.
Here's my take on bdhu, comments and critics appreciated.
