Didn't know if this should be here or in the Functional thread. Anyway domestically welded, heavy af and with a SRAM/Sachs 7-speed hub for my sins.

Did the one at the front / one at the back for the first time for today’s nursery & school run. Handling was pretty wobbly at low speeds but otherwise it was a ton of fun. Would do again, but also thinking it’s time to get that cargo bike. Or at least slap a bafang on this thing.

This. I would actually get 2 bottle batteries one on each side of the fork.

Surprised to hear this on a Troll (or Ogre?) Presumably because of high centre of gravity rather than frame flex?

Wonder if this thread could / should be merged with the cargo bike thread?

Yeah, too much weigh up high, plus giant child over back wheel unweighting the front = wibbly wobbly. Frame is solid as a rock.

Stick a few rocks in the basket to even it out!

Why on earth did I take this long to fix a kickstand to the bike? Total game changer.

Now that I've started going back to the office and it's stopped being windy as fuck I'm trying to work out bike options. Baby is a few months off 2. Looking for something to ride to nursery and then carry on to the office and also a bit of relaxed riding around at the weekends.
I'm a shortarse with poor flexibility. Current bike is a small Kona Honky Inc. It's got rack fittings but I'm pretty sure I'm not flexible enough to get on a bike without swinging a leg over the back. I've also got a Genesis Io ID but I'm not too keen on the high bottom bracket which doesn't make it feel that stable (which I guess is an issue with a fair few MTBs) and a Brompton.
Other option seems to be a weeride but this isn't recommended for bikes with drop bars (and I am guessing isn't great with small bikes).
So, any suggestions on how to make something work with my current bikes or what to look for in something new? Would prefer not to go full on dutch bike but open to options.
Cheers

I’m using a audax-type geometry with a dropped top tube, which seems stable and allows a step over the top tube without having to invest in weekly yoga lessons.
Happens to be a Roberts, which I picked up for not too much cash. Perhaps not much help in terms of searching for a particular frame, but the shape seems to work well.
Happily did 38km with front panniers and picnic yesterday with a 3.5 year old.
Found a smaller Roberts clubman compact frame for my wife and #2 and she gets on well with that.

Well, turns out that my daughter does not like riding in the cargo bike so much and wife also does not like riding it so giving this a shot, child likes the upright seat so hoping this will work better as an interchangeable take the kid places bike. Oreba Katu with decathalon rack and yepp maxi nexxt

Looks like a great setup

Saw this at the playground today. Almost a doppelgänger for my set up, apart from the single speed, brooks and layback seatpost.
Great dad minds build alike it would seem..

I'm looking at the Thule Yepp Mini as an option for converting my mtb to dadbiek but I'm a bit confused as to fitting it - does someone have a close-up image of the seat fitting on an ahead bike so I can see what it looks like? There's a separate part called a 'Yepp Mini Ahead adapter', but I can't tell if that's necessary or if the one supplied with the seat will do the job.
Also, if anyone has it fitted, can they tell me about the stem they're using with it? Diameter/length ideally.

I’ve got one and use the ahead adaptor which is quite chunky but also stops the seat from and swinging around. Don’t know if this is a problem with the other one as not used it properly but it could be possible. The one that comes with it, will fit ahead (1 1/8) but it’s on the absolute limit and will not fit some spacers so need to make sure you have quite thin spacers.

Actually remembered I did use a lot in the beginning as you have to use the original if you want to use the windscreen. Worked fine as long as you enough stem spacers and not too thick

Thanks, I went for the Ahead adapter which is a lot lower profile than the one supplied - seems fine though I just bought the adapter first to see if it would fit before outlaying for the seat.

One brake? Damn...
I would trust that clamp on vintage aluminium either.

Just an update on fitting the Yepp mini - here's what the steerer stack looks like with the ahead adapter. Needed a spacer between the adapter and the stem to stop interference.

Hi, been looking at getting a seat for my daughter. I have the budget version side panels stock is v-expensive and saw this one. Q. how is it fitted to the base plate and how robust is the connection - especially having a priceless passenger?
Ive found somewhere that sells them but they only have a 2d pic without showing the underneath part.
