  • It's a manual choke, which is defo closed when this was happening.

I will certainly check all of the above and below on Tuesday

  • Mrs and I were first on the scene of a kwaker 636 this afternoon. Failed to get round a bend and clipped near side verge and then a big off. I was in a hedge with him for what felt like half an hour. Eventually paramedics arrived and then coptered away, possibly life changing injuries.
His mate said it was the guys first ride this year :(
    Bit down now tbh.

  • Well done for being there to help.

Lots of those kinda offs will happen now that people dust off their bikes and ignore that they haven’t touched one for months.

  • We witnessed something similar a few months back with the rider having a head on collision then being airlifted to hospital. Got a letter through from the driver's insurance as made a statement to the police on scene, he was a quivering wreck as the biker was riding like a complete wet wipe.

  • You'd think people would know by now that they need to have an annual word with themselves. I suppose the excitement and adrenaline take over.

  • Seems our lad may have broken his back, chance of not walking again.

  • Christ. I suppose he wasn't wearing an airbag?

  • No just basic leathers, hopefully that’s just a worst case scenario and things will improve after initial trauma. Have to say I was a bit upset when I got the text from his mate.

  • That's tragic, hope it doesn't pan out like that.

  • Shit. That’s heavy. Hopefully the magic of modern medicine prevails.

@jambon Last weekend I saw two bikes down. One aftermath, one when sitting in pub.
NO idea why the fella was doing. He hit the front brake so hard the front end just taco’s under him. He was alright, but was in shorts and T-shirt with a 22 plate 1000rr that was ruined.
    He’d just got it.

  • ‘Shorts and a t-shirt’ - makes me wince.

  • Impressive to manage that with all the rider aids available! I don’t think you can turn them off fully for the break-in period either!

  • Reason #418 why everyone should own a dirt bike: resurfacing puts you in a good mood, not a bad one.

  • That stuff is just ‘challenge accepted’ on a dirt bike.

Got a very early lift to a trial competition this morning. Arrived 3 hours before the start, 2 before the sign-on even!

Cleared the exhaust right out as I drove it down the road the 6.7 miles back. Didn’t enjoy riding it on the road, but hey, it was a long wait if I wanted the lift back too.

  • Not arguing but doesn't that bike have abs so grabbing a fist full shouldn't make that happen.

  • Can't turn off modern ABS.

One of the ducatis can identify which track it is on and set it self up optimised for the track. But then I take that with a big pinch of salt.

  • Might sell this size XL (wide, but not long on the body) retro Hebo jersey if anyone is a Gas Gas tart

  • This is for the single R, assumed similar for double R.

  • Sure does my man. Fistful will suddenly break traction. Especially on cold rubber.

  • Ok I'll correct myself, you can't turn modern abs off with out intervention. In BMW's case you need to get BMW dealer to turn it off. There are different packages (that I don't understand fully and at a guess same software different options ticked but not sure that you can change the options or if BMW can/will) which mean you can switch off different things

  • Once again, not arguing, thought that modern bike ABS won't allow you to brake traction.

Seen people show the advantage of bike bike ABS on 500cc bikes that you could not lock the front even with cold tyres. But then that was when everything was new, but you would hope. Or am I being niave? Don't have working ABS on any motorbike.

  • Plenty of examples under ideal conditions show ABS performance. Totally into it, including the new cornering ABS, however, plenty other examples where it’s so easy to break traction.

ABS can’t account for road conditions, if you’re braking hard and hit a patch of oil, ain’t nothing stopping that front wheel giving in.

  • In BMW's case you need to get BMW dealer to turn it off

Can't you turn it off yourself in race mode? Or do you have to get a dealer to make race mode a switchable option?

  • Talking of BMW…

  • @lynx

‘Dynamic Pro’ is the race mode that is supposed to be only activated after the running in period (it’s just a jumper plug that comes with the bike).
If you select it, you can then fiddle with the setup to turn ABS off completely… Why I don’t know.
