  • Picture not uploading, double posting and weird phone typing addition of the word "sex" at the end of the message (now edited)... Sorry for messing up the thread...

    [edit] yay, photo worked!

  • I went last recently and was gutted to see it closed. Used to go there around 2005-6 when I worked next door.

  • Some great updates, thanks all.

River Cafe and Electric will be added to present. Sadly Frank's, Southwark St will be added to past.

  • The exhibition is on until the end of April …. it’s really good , some fantastic pictures of Clapham High Street in the 70’s … and Maurice was a great character.
Back to cafes …. the Little Kitchen under the railway arches on Lendl Terrace just round the corner off the High Street … fantastic workers cafe with a great mix of locals .. but …. gone ….

  • A very decent lunch at the regency today. Sausages and chips and an enormous piece of bread and butter pudding, £6.80. A bargain really. A bit of comedy thrown in too with the owner frequently berating the customers who don't speak into the microphone to make their order "I CANT HEAR YOU MATE, CANT YOU SEE THERES A SCREEN IN FRONT OF YOU?"

  • Bar Bruno in Soho - does a mean baked 'tato with chilli and cheese.
Originally opened in the 70s, I'm glad to see it survived the pandemic and the homogenisation of Soho

  • Petit Dejeuner just by Golden Square also!

  • It is no more but the golden grill on mitcham road in tooting was great
    .
    .
Egg chips and a coke whilst looking out at the world passing by was lovely
    .
    .
This is a great thread keep em coming

  • There was The Stockpot in Soho too. Just like school dinner food and nothing wrong with that. Gone now:

  • Bar Bruno and Petit Dejeuner look like they both make the grade and will be added - thank you.

This is a good resource I discovered when looking up those places, have added to the first post even though this dude does stray outside of London:

  • Golden Grill will be added to past cafes - thank you.

love the shop sign they had.

  • excellent - Regency Cafe added to present cafes.

  • This post reminded me of The Times Cafe on Malden Road, a kind of backwater in the middle of the triangle formed by Kentish Town, Gospel Oak and Chalk Farm.

So last weekend I pedalled over there to take a look. Sadly, the cafe is long gone and I couldn't make out which of the somewhat shabby premises it used to occupy. The fishing tackle shop opposite is also closed, but the sign and shop front still intact.

In happier news, I passed by the famous "spaghetti house" of Tufnell Park which is still going. Back then they did breakfasts along with pasta and so forth. From what i can see, it's more of a traditional Italian restaurant now.

Fortunately, just along Brecknock Road, the Moonlight Cafe is still dealing in ebcb and the like.

The Spaghetti House - 169 Fortess Rd NW5

    Moonlight Cafe - 231 Brecknock Rd N19
