Nope.
I've seen fake deaths, fake "I've got terminal cancer", even fake "I was raped".
It's all horrifying to witness, all starts slow and becomes incrementally unbelievable... but enough people get carried along that when it implodes (and it always does because they just cannot seem to stop themselves) then it's usually a mess as the communities themselves are split between those who saw it and those who didn't.

Many, maybe most people have at least one chance to redefine themselves in a mostly honest way - going to university, starting a new job, moving to a different town/country. People having previously been trapped in inaccurate preconceptions held by family/friends/colleagues get the opportunity to be taken entirely on their own merits. I don't know if it's that some people don't get that chance and look for something like it online, or mess it up and look to get it right online, or if they just get addicted to the process. Maybe some are one, some another and some a combination.

I know of two people whom have terminal cancer.
One has been alive for at least 8 years, how the fuck does that work? Then his partner is a friend to your face and berates you behind your back. Yet that couple still have friends.
Is it a case of some sort of personality disorder?
Then again I have been in a place where a guy believed he was Andy McNabb, while another believed he was a son of god.
